Nekkid auctions

Anyone else notice how many half nekkid lady miniatures are up for auction? I wonder if these painters have to have real jobs, or if they make enough off sales to buy paint and cheetos.

Actually, I think most of them are from Nailpainter and she has a real job - just one that allows here to paint while she waits on the next call, if I remember correctly.

Well, for some minis, you can\'t but help the nekkidness, like Chronopia blade maidens (Angela knows what I\'m talking about :p ) but I don\'t like it when they\'re in really bad taste.... like the nazi bondage mistress or something like that and the others like that. It\'s obvious that when people buy these, they need one hand to hold the mini, and another...... to hold the mini. :]

Fine, thank you.. I just finished the head, it was getting boring doing the body but it has to get done somehow! (The Necron Lord I\'m working on... ) :innocent:

....Yes, I am a flight paramedic, which allows me to paint while waiting for a call, but I pilot the Air-Rescue helicopter....an Agusta A109E Power!;)

With regard to the Naked/Half-Naked figures, yes, I\'ve painted plenty, but my choice of figures is and has always been based on what I deem, a work of art....there must be beauty in the piece, not vulgarity. As luck would have it and given what little talent I possess, they sell quite well. I thank the Lord above for each day I\'m given and the many blessings I\'ve received.

that is sooo coooolllll......shame I\'m afraid of hieghts, otherwise I would SO be flying.....:) Cool job, it\'s one of those that must be very rewarding, actually being useful in the community, unlike me, who just slaps paint on lead for a living, i\'m very impressed!

Airborne paintbrush

Gee, Faye, all the times we\'ve conversed, you never told me you flew a heliocopter. That\'s so cool. High stress job, though, they don\'t call out life flight except for really serious stuff. Bet the painting helps relieve stress.

Now, back to the original topic. From a learning perspective, painting nudes is a good excercise in developing brush skills. It takes a very deft hand to layer the paint right so you get the \"glow\" to the surface of the mini that looks like real skin.

Shading and highlighting to accentuate contours of the flesh is very subtle, too.

Learning the basics of form, composition, and light/shadow by depicting the nude human form is an ancient artistic practice. Why should it be different for miniaturists than for any other artist?

And frankly, if you can\'t do a good looking nekkid chick, you can\'t really paint, anyway. Do people come up and ask me how to do cloth? How I get nice metal? No. They ask about skin, hair, and eyes, because THAT is what they have trouble with.

My only experience with a helecopter was riding over the volcano in Hawaii.
Unfortunately I was nervous about how I\'d feel so I took the \"non-drowsy\" dramamine just before flying.
Not only did I still feel ill afterwards, but due to the \"non-drowsy\" dramamine, I slept through half the flight.:flame:

Thanks everybody, but....

....I\'m about to be grounded, permanently, as I have been unable to pass a stress test. The last heart attack did some irreparable damage, so I\'ll either transfer to ground rescue, finish my medical degree, or perhaps, paint for a living. After eighteen years, I shall miss the rewards of the job and the clouds. ..(not the rain)!

Tammy, I could have given you a ride that would ease your fear of heights and put you a little closer to God.....it really is peaceful up there and I\'m an excellent driver...What do you say?:D

Flying and coming to the aid of those in need was never stressful.....Stressful for me was: with all the medical knowledge, not being able to prevent the deaths of two brothers, raising twin boys (not my daughter), getting them all through college and being married to the wrong men...(well, one man and one idiot with the mentality of a selfish child!)
:flame: I suppose I could add spiders here, but for the most part, they are unabtrusive little creatures.

Who knows, maybe attempting to freelance might just take the fun out of it, but since I\'m on my own with no responsibilty to others, now would seem to be the time.

I know this, there are specific reasons for everthing that happens in our lives. Each path taken leads us to our next challenge and ultimately, to our just rewards...(or not, depending on how you handle each situation). Don\'t sweat the small stuff, always look for the good in others and find happiness in simple pleasures.

Faye
P.S. What are the numbers I\'m seeing attached to the bottom of some posts and why are they on some and not everyones?
