Newest Reaper Chrono-thingies

I made no bones about being displeased with the inaugural minis in the \'Chronoscope\' line....BUT I will say I\'m much more impressed by the new \'previews\'.

A few I like:

Getting better!

It looks like that one comes with either a wrench or a gun.

The first dude looks very \'Gears of War-ish\' to me.

I wish the gun was just a smidge smaller, but it still works for me.

Nice to see a \'real\' woman. Not that I dislike the curvy..............REALLY curvy ones, but the whole pole dancer look on a battlefield got old and silly.

I\'m tending to like what I see of the Chronoscape stuff. Is there going to be a regular schedule of releases?

The \"wench with wrench\" is rather nice, as is the first one but the middle guy looks too much like a GW Orrus Spyrer for my liking.

So I keep hearing folks say they\'re not that impressed with the new Chronoscope line from Reaper.

But no one says specifically why or what they were expecting.

I keep thinking these people have some favorite mini or artwork or idea in their head and can\'t help comparing it to the minis that are produced.

Without linking to another manufacturer\'s minis or to a particular game\'s artwork, what\'s wrong with them?

I think that is a fair set of questions.

I think what is \'wrong\' with them is actually the same thing that is \'wrong\' with many of Reapers sculpts. Too generic. I was hoping for something that broke through a bit more....More dynamic poses, more interesting bizarreness....

But, what we have seen could have been made in the industry 5 or even 10 years ago. They just are not pressing the envelop. It seems they are taking the safe road.

Now, all that said doesn\'t mean there aren\'t good solid sculpts. There are. But the promise of what \'chronoscope\' could be and what it has so far showed is slightly disappointing, IMHO.

I\'ve not given up hope, and this latest batch shows more promise, but I want more than just the same generic \'fantasy\' sculpts they have always produced.

Reaper does have a knack for having 10 \'ho-hum\' sculpts and then one that will really thrill me.

Check out INFINITY or HELLDORADO minis...they are pushing the boundries. I can\'t say I love all their minis either, but they are creating a splash.

But, Reaper is also a dollar and cents business. They know much more about making little metal men and women than I\'d ever hope to know.

Fair enough. Everyone has a style that they like.

Reaper has always aimed for the middle market with their stuff so I\'m not surprised that you\'re not seeing the innovation that you would like.

Ya know, there\'s a thread on their forum where you can suggest things for their mini lines. And they actually do read those threads. So maybe you can state some of these things and see if they push a little more?

I\'ve got the two Chrono minis that appealed to me. I\'m firmly stuck in the fantasy genre because I just don\'t have time, space or money to branch out.

I was just wondering what folks weren\'t finding in the minis.

Actually I remember the days of the really bad rat in a cloak sculpt from Reaper - they\'ve come a long way since then.

For me, it\'s the COMBINATION of cost and decent sculpts. I\'ve seen some fantastic sculpts with huge pricetag\'s and it\'s the latter that can steal much of the fun.

I can certainly relate to that... I was a \'fantasy\' only type of mini collector until about 2-3 years ago...Now, it\'s everything BUT fantasy....

Heres to hoping there are no new genres for me to exploit!!

lol

Hmmm, Yeah I have to admit to being soundly underwhelmed by these Chronoscope mini\'s. I\'m not too sure of the story or \'feel\' they are going for either. Over all I feel like we are getting good generic sci-fi models similar to what we see from their DHL line. Good generic fantasy models... but still generic. There are more \'arch type\' iconic images from fantasy to work with than there are in Sci-Fi at this point. So, i think what they are doing is good stuff... just nothing to pull my dollars from my pocket. I\'m all set for Sci-Fi with 40k and Dark Age.

Just my opinion... nice, but not nice enough.

So wait let me get this correct, you are complaining that a company who puts out generic minis is putting out minis that are well Generic....WTF.
That is like saying I I don\'t like strippers because they are naked. I have yet to find a company that puts figures out of the same quality and price as reaper.

Do something with it! You know you want to!!

I like these as well apart from the super-size rifle and wrench, though I don\'t mind the big boots for some reason. They\'d fit very well with Heresy sci-fi figs if they\'re a similar size.
