I have moved this night goblin thread from the Painting & Conversions forum as I think it fits in better here.

This is where I am upto at the moment.

What do you think so far, can I improve the skin and if so how ?

I want to work on the spear tip next, but I cant decide if I should try NMM or just use the metal paints i have, I have never done NMM before, what you think ?

Two last things you could help me with at the moment is colour choice, do i do the spear haft wood, with a wood grain painted on, or do paint it a striking colour like a blue or red ?

Also the robes, do i do it the normal night goblin black or could another colour work well and if so which one?

thanks so much for the advice and help

Ive seen a night goblin army done in off white purple brown and red. No need to stick to black. Go nuts its your army.

I probably wouldnt do Nmm in a gobbo army only because there are so many to do but wood grain on the spear works. I tend to do them a yellowy brown color myself.

I think the skin looks great but the pic is a bit dark. I tend to do gobbos lighter than orcs so I would go another level of highlights.

As Ogrebane said the pics are a bit dark.
The skin looks very smooth. You could go a bit lighter on the highlights but that is personal choice really. Perhaps adding a few different colour washes in appropriate places wil help give it a little more character. Red wash around the eyes and possibly the nostrils.

I would go with something other than black - just because it\'s done to death. A good DARK purple would suit.

The NMM is again more a personal choice. The spear tip is at least something small to practise on but in truth I practised on a test figure before I tried it on something I actually cared about the results with.
Also again as Ogrebane stated, if this is for an army I would go with normal metals as it would be a damn site easier.

Added alittle colour to nose, tried the chainmail with metal paint, not 100% sure on the effect. Painted the eyes in yellow , with a little red wash under the eye.

Also started the cloak, what do you think of it, thats 2 thin layers of lich purple, 1 lich/ choas black very thin gaze, and a thin coat of red gore/ lich purple to start highlighting. problem is its looking like by the time i finsh the cloak it could be very bright.

please keep the feedback coming, really is helping loads, i would have never thought about adding colour to the nose and it really works well i think.

thanks again for the help!

There\'s little I can say to help you improve, chris - at that magnification, all the faults that cannot be seen by the naked eye are visible. And there are few of them. While the layering is obvious in the pics, IRL, I doubt it would be obvious at all.

The only suggestion I could make is to highlight the hard flesh a little more, the knuckles, etc. Stunning work, and that nose is brilliant. :)

The nose looks great! On the chain mail you could use a little rust.

As to the cloak if you are trying for a dark look overall then highlight the last brighter highlights just at the edges of the cloak and the top of the folds. Remeber if you go to bright you can always darken it down with some glazes over the top. Have a look HERE
See how most of the purple is very dark but the highlights go light very quickly, I would not go that bright for your guy though.

Do you think thats light enough for the robe ?

Also what would be the best way to add rust to the chainmail ?

Also I think I want to try the NMM on this guy, never done this before and no idea where to start, so could someone walk me through painting the spear tip like that or point me to a link where i can learn how to do it.

thanks again people, your advice and feedback really is helping loads.

Can\'t help much on th NMM (it took 5 goes for my my Belakors sword and I\'m still not really happy with it). Also most people say don\'t mis real metals (ie your chainmail) with NMM.

As to rust a thin wash of orange brown ink, then repaint just the edges with chain mail. Then I get a stippling brush and dab on rust coloured pastel. (I will get a photo up of what that looks like tomorrow).

Two new pics, been working on the leather for the boots and where the spear joins the pole.

Also tried to do a rust effect on the chain mail.

really torn between NNM or not on this model, I really want to learn how to do it, but does it have to be this model .... lol

getting excited now, he is getting close to being finished and I think he is by far my best mini, I think its helped me taking my time and getting advice from you lot, so thanks guys and girls !

The skin is too shiny! Do you use many inkts?
I like it so far!

I personally don\'t like NMM. Unless it is very smooth. And I don\'t see that often. :( So MM is better. Esspecially with Goblins.

The skin looks great, don\'t think of doing anything else with it. On the chainmail, just put a very small edge of metal over the rust on the edges of the links (this will look like the rust has been chipped off with the movement of the armour).

here is an example of that rust effect I was talking about.

As to the NMM I would suggest it would be better to practise on a figure you DON\'T think is the best work you have done. I practised on a maetal black orc I never intended finishing anyway.

Ok started on the base and tried the spear tip, not 100% happy with either to be honest.

The base I am trying to get a winter mud effect before I add the snow to it.

Also whats the best way to make the model look cold, I added another wash to the nose to try and make it stand out alittle more, but still not looking as cold as I would like.

So could use help with a \"cold look\", how to make my base look the best i can get and with the spear tip.

heres the updated photos and thanks for any help.
