Thanks dude :) much appreciated! esp. as it\'s not been a good day for him today - i wasn\'t really feeling it. aah well.

Wow, this is really coming along nicely... how large is this guy? It must be interesting to go from painting with acrylics on the minis to oils on these guys... any obvious differences that you find in style?

Again, great work thus far.

@mousekiller - he\'s about 150mm tall, which is a new scale for me - the oils are influencing my style, for a start it\'s getting colder - I\'ve moved away from really warm colours except as spots. not entirely sure why...tbh i\'ll have to think about that some more before i can give you a good answer.

ok, and now an update :)

...belt, toe/finger nails and some overdue pics of the finished sword blades.

Hi Cybersquig, I like the greener tinge of his big toenail compared to the whiter others. I\'ve had to check online for the names, are you going to put lunula & free edge colour differences? How far on with the nails are you?

Enjoying your updates  B.

Well I\'ve learned some anatomy names, which is really great news! the nails are so textured on the model, I am keen to focus on emphasising that, so no there won\'t be a final change to the nails, except that I\'ve highlighted the ends of them in pure white. Thanks for the input, I\'d like to do another large scale model which is very clean and smooth, so I could concentrate on getting that stuff very realistic. I\'ll post another set of pics this evening so you can see what I mean.

@mightychad: Thank you, I certainly hope so, it\'ll depend on my camera work quite frankly, I fear that may let me down- my track record is certainly not the best in that respect! As for getting the mini - I was lucky enough to get a copy from Sean Green the sculptor, he isn\'t selling it any more, it was originally released through firewind industries, an ill-fated offshoot of rackham I believe. So then, ebay is your best friend!

Hey, another update, this is the pics of the finished toenails, and the finished straps of the sandals. Also there are some pics of him now he\'s assembled. Ok, so there is still a long way to go, but it\'s nice to see him assembled, it makes me feel like I\'m making progress, and now it comes to highlights etc., it\'s good to see where the light falls to make the whole thing cohesive in the end.
The base looks pretty drab in the pics, even though i thought it looked pretty good before it was all assembled. aah well.

anyway, any thoughts, most appreciated.

Thank you each of you, it\'s always encouraging to have the support :) I certainly hope I can break into the nines - I\'ve thought I\'d be able to with one or two of my recent submissions, but that certainly wasn\'t to be as it turned out, so this was a fun mini (\'mini\' lol) that I thought I could maybe squeeze over that massive personal barrier with. we\'ll see. Lots to do, and lots of minor clean up too -fix a couple of chips, black line certain bits (like between the thongs on the sandals and the toes etc.), lose the splodge of green on the sandal, as well as the big bits like the nmm brass (tsuba, buckle, earring), the sword handle, the highlights on the arm pieces, a broken bowl to adorn the base, to tell a bit of a story, and the triangular pattern, which I think I\'ve finally decided apon, I hope you\'ll like when you see what I\'m going to do there!

@Alex - it\'s a big model! that\'s the difference ;)

Oh he\'s gone together very nicely hasn\'t he, and to think that I\'m getting nervous about glueing a banner to a pole lol

I\'m a bit worried that the black shading over the checked patch is a bit too heavy, what do you think?

Nice nails btw :D  B.

Thanks :)

Yes I agree that the black over the patch is a bit heavy, but in the flesh it does reward the less casual viewer, and it is that sort of thing that (despite not always being apparent on CMON) is what should move a good mini to a great one. Nah, I\'m justifying a mistake, I didn;t mean for it to fade quite that much, but it\'s hard to get the motivation to re-paint them now!

I think something like a broken bowl of noodles on the floor would be pretty cool, something fairly mundane to suggest his intrusion into an otherwise peaceful setting. Ninjas aren\'t exactly known for fighting fair ;)

Anyway looks pretty awesome, can\'t wait to see it all finished up and everything.

You could try painting the ninja\'s shadow on the base? I think that could look good.

Excellent work so far.

I would do something different from the bowl as the colour scheme is allready a bit like corpuscle\'s and the broken bowl would make it look a bit to much alike. Maybe try some styalised blood spatter or something else like a graphic design, but at the end of the day it\'s your model so do what makes you happy.

Ninjas don\'t have shadows, they are surgically removed* during training!!

Love the noodles idea, with a couple of chopsticks beside the broken bowl maybe.

*This may not be factually correct!
