No GW blisters in stores...

At least I wasn\'t born in nearby Scunthorpe. I think it would be excessive to use the underline here, I\'m sure you can spot it.

But yeah, I never thought I\'d look forward to getting back to Nottingham. Blimey it\'s nasty here.

It\'s the same for the rest of the items being removed, they are not being destroyed only taken out of a shop in order that the managers can meet their projected sales figures. So what\'s the big deal!
...snip...
Slagging off GW is all too easy as they are a big target, but despite their faults they have brought the Gaming/Hobby industry up to the level that we enjoy today.
So for those people who state that they want GW to fail, take a good look at the hobby and just think what the implications to the painting commission businesses would be.
The stagnant stock argument is valid only if GW was forcing stores to carry full complements of blisters before this announcement. What they do with the GW retails stores is their own business, but if the LGS has stagnant stock I would blame the games department manager first, since he\'s responsible for ordering the inventory. Taking away the option for LGS to stock those blisters is counterintuitive to me. The only reason I imagine is that it\'s an attempt to boost GW retail stores by stocking some things there that LGS can\'t stock. For a single Space Marine heavy weapon blister, I\'d be more likely to drive the 30 miles than spend the shipping fee. Either that or increase the order to the free shipping level. Either way, GW does better.

That said, I agree with you on the GW bashing. Everyone likes to pick on the biggest player (not just in this hobby) and everyone likes to see hubris rewarded by failure, so it\'s easy to pile on. Like it or not, GW does bring people into the hobby (myself included) and they do produce some very cool stuff. Yeah, they gaff on a regular basis, but they have an awful lot of new stuff per gaff. And my own commission painting business is primarily GW stuff.

Now don\'t get me started on Privateer Press\'s quality control... :cussing:

As far as i know it\'s like this: GW has a certain number of products that can be sold on one time - lets say it\'s 2000. So GW shops may only have 2000 kind os products in stock, no more, no less. It\'s without saying that to put new stuff on shelves they have to remove some stuff that is already there (as some people already point it out). There is another issue though. Why are they pulling back miniatures that doesn\'t sell and those that are selling very well. It\'s simple - if there were only crapy minis on mail order no one would like to look at the offert. By putting some nice sculpts, GW is encouraging people to use mail order.

At least that\'s what appeared to me after a discussion i had in my local mini shop today.

Cheers!:]

My buddy opened a store a couple years back and GW forced him to purchase the ENTIRE line if he was going to carry any GW Product. I also know another shop owner that refuses to carry the GW line because it simply costs too much to carry everything they require you to carry. That being said I think it is a good thing that they are removing blisters from retail stores.

Well on the plus side there is now a better excuse to pay out lots of money for GW catalogs so you can know what blisters are available to buy. Of course there\'s the web sites, but I\'m sure next will be a fee to browse the online shops, wouldn\'t want people seeing pictures of the blister minis for free you know.

EDIT: I was gonna make a comment about $50 catalogs but thought the better of it because who would be crazy enough to pay $50 for a catalog... Then I went to the GW store site to browse around, noticed a catalog section and lo-and-behold, the fricking things are $50. Dang.

Mike I agree with you there sir on all points.
As a former manager I can safely say Blister packs are a pain in the ass.

The amount of time tey take up from staff to manage them is ridiculous .Most customers don\'t see that side of the stores they see the staff ready to play games paint stuff and sell stuff they don\'t see the continuous cycle of dusting cleaning stock shuffling ordering reorganising etc..I was part of a group of managers who signed some blisters (complete pegs of 6 in some cases) and monitored how long before they shifted(this was before the new till system) some blisters will happily sit gathering dust over a year...when other blisters sell every day..The hard truth is GW stores are stores they are there to make money simple as that. They develop the hobby and introduce new people daily and keep the hobby blooming.

look on the flipside GW stores cost money to run and removing blisters is one o many ways that the company can start to reduce costs and eventually pass that onto the customers.

I say good move and good luck to them e miniature hobby would be a long way back from it\'s current level without them.

Record! Railway spike! Sledgehammer! AIEEE!!!

Less GW stuff and more space for Warmachine in independant stockists. This is a bad thing how?

Will independant stockist still not be able to get the blisters though? It sounds like they are only taking them out of GW shops.

In order to just stock GW product, GW now only requires that you stock through \"Line one\" of one range of miniatures. For example, For 40k, a stockist must have at least one of each of the core plastic box sets (Generally a vehicle and 2 kinds of troop boxes per army) This is pretty low budget.

However, You have to stock quite a bit if you want to become a \"Preferred Retailer\" which gets the stockist new stuff in advance, (They recently sent a free Eldar codex to all preferred retailers a month in advance, same with the new Orc and Goblins) etc...

My local store can still order sealed (new in box) Battlefleet Gothic and Bloodbowl starters from direct services (as well as just about any other recently discontinued product), and get a nice wholesale price too, so more than likely these particular blisters will still be able to be stocked.

Edit: chrismisterx, that is true also (including Independent Stockists, as well)

Ha, ha, I\'m glad I wasn\'t the only one who caught that.
Reducing costs to the customers was the reasoning they gave when switching to plastic all those years ago.

This actually sounds like good news for independant stockists prepared to take inventory risk. If GW is just now figuring out they aren\'t that great at running retail and are focussing more on marketing efforts (i.e. promoting games in store rather than trying to sell an entire back catalogue) there\'s a niche here for stores that carry everything.

A love/hate relationship with GW is not uncommon in this hobby. All of my cmon pics are gw stuff, but I have a certain resentment towards the modern GW company. I\'m sure I\'d feel the same way about my smack dealer if I had one.
