I have finally convinced my girlfriend that not only do guns kill people, but they kill people who may try to break in and hurt us.

She has given me the okay to buy my first gun which of course will be a handgun, then a few more, then a shotgun, and of course assault rifles.

Theres a gun show coming up in August that I will be attending and checking out for some good prices.

After mini painting and being lazy, I have added yet another hobby. SWEET!!!!

If your buying a fire arm for home protection a good ol Mossberg 12 guage with a 10 round extended magazine loaded with 00 buck..

No if you want the pure enjoyment of dealing with an intruder.. nothing beats a good ol louisville slugger.

so are you plannning on having any evidence left over after you plug said intruder with all the ammo from all those assualt rifles?

personally i am fine with a man or woman having a gun, but assualt rifles seem a bit hmmm.....excessive.....

then again i rember the last time everyone got into it on c\'mon over gun laws and such.

shivers and runs to quiet circle of cool.

Its pretty simple here in Florida.. if the intruder comes into your home.. hes an open target.. just leave his corpse where it lay and its pretty shut case.

As for an assault rifle..its not a machine gun... which if I could purchase, I would..but not for the prices they go for lol.

Personally, While I inderstand your desire to protect your house and loved ones, I don\'t see this as something to be particularly proud of.

And before this turns into an anti-firearm debacle let me say that I grew up with Firearms in my parents house, was taught to handle, maintain and most of all RESPECT firearms by my Father and late Godfather. I used to shoot in competitions along side them, at a decent level, and held my own Firearms Certificate for several years.

BUT I cannot see any reason under the sun why a person would need, let alone want, an assault weapon.

As I agree, this shouldnt turn into a pro and anti topic,

but an assault rifle is not a machine gun, which if my pockets were lined with gold and the laws permitted, I have an arsenal.

Living in the Northeast part of the US, I\'ve always read about southern states and the state laws they had and always promised myself that If I ever moved south, the first things I would get would be a truck and guns..

I just purchased a 07 Toyota Tacoma, and now its time for another toy.

As for why get an assault rifle? probably the same reason why people buy 120k cars when they can get the same usage out of a 20k dollar car.. because they are given the right to do so..

BTW..my first gun will be a little .22 for practice and the fact that ammo for them is dirt cheap.

BTW.. Dragon.. I do see a mossberg in my future.. but I\'d prefer a handgun for home defense.

Oh and to clear something up. I dont like republicans and I could care less about democrats.. I especially cant stand the NRA.. As much as Im getting a gun for home defense..Im getting it because I can..... if people are dying for the right to bear arms, Id better take advantage of that.

Also, according to the Bush Administration.. Al Queda should be hiding in my closet right now ready to strike.. I need to be ready. :drunk:

Actually the best thing for home defence is a very quiet Big f-ing dog.. nothing sends a intruder running faster than a big dog chomping his back side.

Like DR I was brought up around guns andnot only taught to shoot them but to respect them. Handguns really do make poor home protection weapons for many reasons. The tend to jam, accuracy is limited especially when you scared whitless in the middle of the night and unlesss its a revolver springs weaken in magazines that are always kept loaded and again cause jams..

A 12 gauge pump on the other hand is going to hit anything and everything in a 8 ft radius.

Now if your going to keep firearms in the home I trust you will keep them under lock and key at all time because well if they are stolen ot taken by someone and used in the commission of a crime and its traced back to you in many states you can become liable.

Frankly, i\'d go for something hefty like a Deagle for example, that way if you actually hit the intruder during the fray, they are are not getting up (it\'s like being shot by a car), and also if it does jam it is one of the largest pistols so hell just throw the bits at him. You could throw the whole thing if you\'re confident, or maybe save the magazine till last, in which you have 8 very shiny and BIG bullets which certainly would leave a mark!! :D
Seriously though IT IS NOT A TOY, never ever play with it in front of kids, which goes whithout saying but still...
If you have it out, you make the hell sure there are no people any where near you, never ever point it at anyone or anything just because you think its not loaded, doesn\'t mean it isn\'t.
It may seem like a toy but when you\'ve just shot someone, shouting \"it wasn\'t loaded, i don\'t understand!!\", aint gonna make ANY difference.
Treat it with respect, and it wont bite you in the arse the moment you piss about with it is the moment something bad happens....have fun....hehehe:D

Maybe someone should tell them that GW have used the Metal storm name for a type of ammunition. We all know GW\'s ideas are original.

Just the SOUND of the pump action shotgun being pumped sends a very CLEAR message to whoever - \'you-be-out-gunned\'.

For DEFENCE, always go for a smaller handgun rather than a long rifle as you are less likely to be wrestled off you.

Also, two handed grip is preferable.

I dunno the law in America about STORING said weapons, but if you leave them loaded in drawers, then the chances of a burglar FINDING a weapon is also not good.

Come on, don\'t leave the gun fans in the audience in suspense, what are you planning on buying?

A .22 semi-auto (the Ruger Mk.II slab-side is great) or revolver is a good first gun, a hoot to shoot and dead cheap on the ammo front as you say, but what are you thinking about on the \'serious gun\' side of things?

Any particular calibre in mind? 9 mil? .40 short and weak? .357*? Ol\' reliable, .45ACP? .50AE**?
