Bingo.
It is not a black and white issue. As much as some would try to simplify it (ie: guns kill, therefore guns are bad) it\'s not that simple. It is an issue of choice.
I have yet to meet a Pro-gun person who is saying that all people must be armed. We\'re not trying to force a gun on you if you do not wish it. In fact, most of us believe if you can\'t handle the responsibility then you probably shouldn\'t have one. Quite a few of us believe in harsher penalties for those that use guns in crimes. For many of us it\'s not about guns at all. It\'s about choices and taking responsibility for those choices. It\'s about personal responsibility.
Most anti-gun people I have met, however, do not want to extend the same respect. They believe you shouldn\'t have the choice at all. Instead they would have the responsibility handed over to some of our lowest paid and our most corrupt. (cops and government)
This, to me, is insulting as it seems to be insinuating that I do not have the ability to make choices on my own, as well as insinuating that I lack responsibility.
In some instances it\'s not even insinuated.
My friends and I who own guns have over 25 years each of gun ownership with never a mishap, gun safety is trained at a very young age. We teach responsibility.
Could it be that these shooting sprees are the result of lack of responsibility, bad parenting, combined with a lack of real consequences? I believe so, and I believe that is the true problem, the problem that won\'t go away by taking away freedoms of those who practice responsibility.
