Ithink your close to the shiny effect, I would add some fertile lines for example on the downward facing arm just a thin line down the bicep fading out before the elbow and maybe the forearm too, also on the leg in line with the wrinkles on the thigh but under the pouches maybe

Hahaha, I just fluke everything I do well!
Skirt isn't looking bad at all, if anything though I'd shade down. The cloak I did on Belly started off with very dark brown and got a nuln oil wash, then worked up from there, but I don't think quite that much contrast would suit this mini.

Skin's looking excellent though buddy!

I agree with foxy, skin looks nice, skirt colour works but it lacks depth, it needs a bit more shading or highlighting imo

Oh cool, thanks guys! I previously had more shadow on the skirt but then lightened it up, but I think you're right that it could use more contrast in that way. I will reestablish the shadows the next time (hopefully tonight) I sit down to paint and see how it goes. Thanks again!!

Thanks BAM and Maenas!!

I didn't get around to painting last night, unfortunately. Hopefully tonight a little bit and I'll get some o' that shading done.

So I just order meself some o' them Scale75 metallic paints and am excited to try them out. My question is: can I still use my good brushes with metallic paints? I thought I heard/read somewhere that the paint will mess up good brushes so use the cheap stuff. Is this true?

There is no problem in using your good brushes with them (at least I think there is not and I am using them xD ). Just use a different pot of water to clean them so you won't mess up your regular colours with shiny metallic flakes...
Maybe what you read is that when you use those brushes with alcohol/spirit based paints the natural bristles of your brushes will get hurt since alcohol will dry the natural oils on the bristles reducing their lifespan. (There is a metallic line from Vallejo that it's alcohol based)

I use s75 metallics with my series 7s, no issues except the s75 metallics are quite thin and try to sneak up the ferrule if I'm not paying proper attention

Thanks Sicks! I was hoping you would put your two cents in, because I know you recently got some of these paints as well. That's good, because my crappy brushes are REALLY crappy, lol. And I'd much rather use my good stuff to try and get some good blends with the metallics.

I personally will say this ... Myself who does alot of metallics I have my own set... Being I clean them with much more care than just brush soap... My feelings are this if a model is predominantly metallic IDE say use the same as it doesn't make a difference in my honest opinion .. But if I'm doing other colors on the same mini IDE use a desperate brush for metallics ..along with 2 seperate water pots... 1 to rinse the metallics off and being that all those metallic fleks are in the water I use another water cup to rinse those off. It's terrible and very easy for these metal fleks to make its way back onto your brush. This works for me.

No worries :) I've had the steel set for over a year now just got the gold one this Christmas passed, once you get used to how much thinner they are (I was coming from gw paints) they get really nice to work with

@BAM - How differently do you clean your metallics brushes?

@Sicks - Right on. Yeah I'm excited to try them out.

Ill clean the brush myiple times not only after the painting session but many other time during . Ill use brush soap and Luke warm water and in the final time that I run it under water to get the brush soap off ill make a point and then squeeze the brush between my middle and pointer finger nails. Ill then pull the bush down as the nails punching it will get rid of any larger metal flakes that have gotten lodge in the body if they have. Then one final time under water with brush soap make a fine point and begin painting again. It's excessive but it works. Now remember I said I have diff sets if brush for big majority of metal area models. But they are still great brush. Still w/n and or citadel artificer .. No matter what I'm using I use the same grade only diff sets of the same for each.

Dang that is extreme BAM lol. But obviously it pays off. That is a good idea to have a metallic brush set and a standard brush set. I'll have to build up my supplies to accommodate that eventually. Thanks for the tip!! You're GOLDEN!! :worship::worship!::smile-big:
