oistene's WIP - a mostly dead space

That tongue is disturbingly phallic....

But through the blur he's looking suitably disgusting and nicely done. I would do something to the carapace - it's a bit flat at the moment. Perhaps a stippled pattern like you mention. Sorry I'm not of more help idea-wise.

It isn't as flat as it seems on the picture - but it is boring. I'll see what I do. What I really liked about this model, was that I could just go on and do whatever, since I couldn't possibly make it any worse. I mean, it has a d*** coming out of its mouth! I almost didn't add it while assembling.

So. I tried my new stripling brush, either it isn't any good or I used it wrong. Used a light beige, but it just got patchy. No damage done, I smoothed it out, and took a toothpick and some purple instead. I don't really know if this did any good, but now I am tired of this crappy model and rage-glued it to its base. Letting the glue dry overnight, then seal and add some slime. Moving on!

The purple works. There's some more work you could do with shading it in, but to be honest it's a good table top standard and there's no point getting aggravated.

There you go again painting horribly ugly beasties again. Looks wickedly cool man. I really like the top carapace.

Thanks, fellows. Looking at the picture, I *might* take the time to smoothen out the highlights on the head some, they are a bit more coarse than the rest. What was it you wanted changed and/or added, Arch? I'm still sick of him and might not do it, but I am curious what caught your eye. :)

Got a painting night tonight, so this boy will be finished, probably his other broodly mate with the missing picture as well. Going to do the humanoids in the group next (total of six of them), and then - well, I am saving the best for last.

Nothing major - some of the purple dots are very definite and I thought it might help to run a quick glaze of the brown over them to "blur" the edges and integrate them into the carapace. Just a thought.

You can't tease me like this! It's against the Geneva Convention to tease nosey enthusiasts like me.

... that sounds like a plan, another glaze of Agrax Earthshade is never wrong. I can do that while working the face, all of this should be half an hour of work, tops.

And yes, I can. :) Norway's part of NATO, so its 'murica, fuck yeah! all the way. :soldier:

Expect the humanoids soon. Also, I need to have a photo-day some time in the future.

Also, I need to have a photo-day some time in the future.

I can't wait until I have the space to set up a semi-permanent photo booth. At the moment my good friend YetiSA helps me out. I paint a few minis and then take the batch through to his place. They're not studio quality images, but infinitely better than what I can do and we're still playing with lamp placement etc.

I love those two tutorials (the camera one and the iPhone/iPad one) - they are written at a very accessible level and are very useful.

The emphasis in my last post should be on "semi-permanent" - which will probably translate into a table in my hobby room (can't wait to have one when we find a bigger place!) that can be easily rearranged for photo shoots.

I've also been eyeing these: portable and collapsible photo booths.

I did a little touch-up on ugly yesterday, think it turned out all right. Finished-pictures later.

Also managed to more or less finish the beast with the disappearing picture (AKA Alpha Broodling):

Also managed to start up on the humanoid creatures:

That's Sawblades on the left, and Pud Throwers on the right. They look quite similar, so I wanted them to have the same basic coloration. The others are Ratchets, they are smaller and stockier, the original art shows them as white, and the box art as light grey. I want them white with a more yellow tint, so I tried a mix for the base coat. It looks kinda green in the picture, but it is really more of a dirty yellow. Most of it will disappear in the shading anyhow.

Even more progress today, got a lot done. I've basecoated and blocked in most of the main colors. The Ratchet was easy, but I have to hit and miss a bit with the others.

Ratchet. I primed this a long time ago, and I gotta say... I used to use a lot of primer. :p Pretty close to the concept art, but mine will be a lot dirtier, since I prefer that. These two will be pretty easy, I think I can have them done in one more sitting.

Sawblade. I tried many colors here, but it didn't look right. In the end, I'm going for fewer colors, dark and menacing. The cloth and the shell look similar now, but the cloth will turn distinctly purple and the shell will be bluish black. This, too, is close to the concept art.

Pud Thrower. Looks like a circus clown, but shading will change him a lot. I'll blend a lot of green into the shell and the mask, and a lot of corrosion on the weapon. I don't feel that he is right as he is, but I do hope that my plan works. I want him lighter and more colorful than the sawblade, to make the two really distinct.
