Machine-like painting is pretty much due to life kicking me in the face a lot these days. Painting is pretty much the only thing that soothes me and that I can easily carve out time for. I guess it could have been worse, I get painting done.
Finished up the bane knights yesterday (those last steps always take longer than I think), here's some lousy pictures:

Had a go at using the airbrush to shade these guys. I still have a long way to go, but man oh man that things is a time saver! These were primed and base coated before I started yesterday, and now they are close to done. They are pretty large models, so the airbrush has saved me hours and hours.

Okay, this is what I am doing now:

This is a multi-part kit, I've magnetized it so it can be turned into three different helljacks. There's so many details and little parts - even with my relatively simple color scheme, it has been taking forever. Nearly done with the metal now, so that I can start to shade it. Fortunately, I've preshaded the grey parts with the airbrush, so they'll only need some edge highlights to pop. Hoping to get this done today.

If you upload it to your gallery don't forget to put a pic with the different options... magnetizing is time consuming but I think it's worth the effort because you can have different miniatures in just one. I haven't tried it, but I will when I (someday) start my Skaven screaming bell/plague furnace project.

Your Cryx army looks very good, really like how the Bane Knights turned out. I'd pit my Legion against them.

Thanks guys! Actually, Maneas, I don't think magnetizing was all that time consuming, not as prep goes. There were a few tricks to it, but once I had nailed it, it was a breeze and I'll be doing it again.
As for gallery pics - I know I should, but I suck at photography and I don't feel like spending my precious hobby time on practicing, or even taking pictures in the first place, for that matter... at the same time, I want to display my work as good as possible, so it is a bit of a Catch 22. "Maybe later" is the mantra I live by.
fluister, with this kit finished, my regular 35 pt army is actually fully painted, which is a first for me! Still need a few more minis to get the 50 pt done, with options, but I plan to get there.

Lots of painting, little CMoN posting these days, this is mostly because I do quick jobs.
I'm trying to use my airbrush as much as possible, to get the minis faster on the table. It's a learning process, to say the least. While some things come easy, other things I really struggle with. Getting the work flow right and figuring out of to mask effectively (or when to not mask at all and rather fix it by hand) is on the top of my list.
I've done some work on my Bile Thralls the last few days. It can pretty much be summed up as 'hrmph'.

Metal done by airbrush, liquid mask placed, added some purple to the base for shading. No problem!

Base flesh done. Tried to add some darker green, but it hardly showed on the purple and black, so I skipped it. Tried to keep it from above as much as possible. Few problems.

I found that the best way to remove it was by using a ball of dried up liquid mask, but not even that was fool proof. Never again! Next time, I'll airbrush the flesh and do the metal by hand.
I'll cover my steps below, any insight in this will be highly appreciated! I think I need to reconsider my work flow.

Oh man that's a little nightmare!! what did you use as a masking liquid? vallejo's blue one? and what did you use to paint the base paint beneath the masking?
I read here on the forums that putting a thin layer of varnish helps in protecting previous work from that issue... I myself haven't tried it, because of this problem you are comenting... I am just a bit terrified since this seems a more common problem than it should be with a thing that's designed to do this work.....

Vallejo, yes. It's not QUITE as bad as it seems - there's still more mask on that model I need to remove, but I need other tools and I am not at home and also, I got REALLY fed up with it. Under the mask there's Badger primer, and regular acrylics (some Vallejo air and some Warcolor, if I remember correctly). I think I might have over-primed the parts that came loose. I lay on the primer pretty hard to make a good base for the metal, and that might not have been a good idea.
Next time, I'll try to get hold of Silly Putty, I hear that is good.

Okay, took me two days of cleaning while playing Fallout with the wife, but I finally got rid off 98% of the masking on the Bile Thralls. The best way I found was to use a little fresh liquid mask on a tooth pick, and then gently rub that on the old masking. Continue doing so until it starts to tug at the mask, then it can be carefully pulled off. Did less damage to the paint, but still some was left in the details.
In the end, I more or less prevailed. I re-primered the damaged parts by hand. There's way too much paint on these now (I see I've gone too heavy with the airbrush as well), but I'll cover it up with weathering and special effects - these aren't the coolest sculpts around, and I can't stand starting over. Started to repair and fill in some colors now:

Rather pleased with the results, considering the time spent. Just a little more base work here, and they are done - meaning I am four points done on my one point per day in 2016 challenge!

Thanks Terra, a little painting is indeed what makes a good day for me. Life is full of stress, frustrations and disappointment, but the brush wipes all of that away. At the painting table, there is no stress, frustration is learning and disappointment seldom comes as I aim high but expect low.
Glad you like it, Toad. I considered pushing the highlights on the skirt, but kept them low on purpose, part to save time, part because the mini is very busy as it is and part because there weren't much folds and the like sculpted into it. Texture might be nice, though... I've glossed it now, but I'll consider adding a little pigment for texture before sealing with matte. Would only take me five minutes.
Turns out the Bile Thralls are salvageable. They won't ever be my best work, but will fit into my table top standard. I've basecoated and shaded everything but the skin now, after adding highlights and some magic tricks to the skin they should look alright.
