Thanks Tero... With everything that's been going on, I took a break from minis this week. However, I kept painting. I've had a ruined building and some scatter terrain sitting in my workspace for months, I've been throwing some paint at the building inbetween other things but not really gotten that much progress on it. So for a change of pace, I've worked on that. It's nice, little need to thin paints, no blends, no complex shades... Just choosing colors, washes and drybrushing. It is nearly done now, I need to add some of the pigments BAM adviced me to get - it's a good way to get to try those out.
Will post pics when I finish it. Once done, it is back to Dave and the others, but right now they can wait.

I hear ya on the terrain stuff. Stress free but still got the brushes going. I have found that terrain is great for pigment experimentation.
I never thought about looking at shapeways for mini stuff. That was a great idea. The gas can was a nice addition and fits the theme very well along with the flashlight.
The "Color" book arrived at my place a day after you got yours. So far I have liked it, I'm glad I took BaM's advice and ordered it. Have you read much of yours yet?
The pics look a lot better too

The Shapeways stuff I got was made by a gamer - added them for fun when I picked up some card holders. They are neat.
I read a few chapters, not so much of the practical stuff but I am getting to it now. I like it so far, she explains really well.

I've spent the last few days finishing stuff.
The ruined building I've been working on is done, I went bananas with pigments and some of the tricks BloodAsMedium has shown me. Later down the road I'll find some terrain pieces that it would work on, and test out some battle damage as well.
Yesterday I cranked out zombies and did some basing on the stuff my family has been painting. That's a dozen minis ready for the gaming table, which makes me very happy.
Today, I took out some of the Zombicide survivors that I've posted early on in my WIP. Studying them, I was amazed. When I did them, only a few months back, I was pretty happy with them. They weren't masterpieces, but I considered them to be at the top of what I was able to do.
This morning, they pretty much looked like crap.
However, I could easily see how I could improve them! True, the paint was too thick and the shading was all over the place, but with a little consideration, I had a clear picture of how they could be better. Yeah - the best would be to start over, but the Zombicide minis are not the best sculpts, so there are things I'll enjoy painting more. Also, of these particular minis, I have spares to use for demo purposes, so I can do another version if I want.
I didn't want to make a huge effort out of this, I want them finished! The aim was always table top quality any way. However, I sharpened the contrast, added some glazes - and they look a lot better. Still no masterwork, and maybe not even the top of my current work, but good enough for me to consider them 'saved'. The only problem I got is that I did eyes with a pen back then - I've gone away from that now, since the pen was too black and the tip too big. So I probably have to redo the eyes completely.
No pictures because I am a tease, but I'll try to have a picture day this weekend. I really just wanted to share how pleased I am with my progress, and that there is still hope that I'll become a decent painter one day.

helllllloooooo everyone any questions on her book or her methodology I'll be glad to help.? Read on young ones... lol cool deal oist terrain you say always thought that was amazing when people made terrain..the same dude who made the movement trays has a full sized zombi ice Ide city board I'm talking hospitals with Lil bloody beds and sheets,in poles and led that light up city buildings and billboard advertisements that say get the Mt cure now and stop the virus from spreading form merchant industries..really one of the greatest display boards I've seen

Hm, I might have seen that stuff on a Zombicide board, BAM! Then again, a lot of people has made buildings and the like for their Zombicide games. I personally prefer Zombicide without terrain, too much clutter for me, but for wargames it is a must! I both get prepainted terrain, stuff I have to paint and create my own when time permits... trying to get the right mix between time, money and creative urges. The building I've done now is a simple resin cast, I've had it on my shelf and thrown paint on it once in a while, but put my full concentration on it last week. Results:
I am hooked on the weathering pigments now!
Also finished some berserker zombies. These guys are done and ready to move back into the game box:
Next now is to finish those Zombicide heroes, that will be my task this week. Getting close on Wanda and Josh:
I think that I'm moving Wanda to the basing stage now, I don't want to spend more time on her. Josh need a freehand on his shirt (I painted over the one I already did) and maybe better eyes... After these I have six more... and Dave, so that makes eight. Yeah, plenty to do.

Alright. Long time no post. I've done little or no painting the last few weeks, I'm been telling myself that it is because I've been tired a lot from taking care of the kids alone (fiance is in hospital and staying there for yet another while), but really, I think I've been making excuses. I'm put off from finishing these half-done Zombicide minis.
However, it doesn't mean that I've been slacking! I've assembled and prepped a load of Dark Age minis, and I am really looking forward to starting painting those. Also, managed to take a trip out to T and do some work on the table (which has just been sitting there since December; no pictures, sorry about that). I *will* stick to my plan of finishing what I started, however.
So last night the brushes finally came out, and I did some work on Ned. Well, actually, I think I finished Ned. Only base work remains:
Seems like getting better tools actually matters - I've been using my new W&N for this, along with my also new wet palette. It improved my blends vastly, following some advice from Canny and Tero also helped. Right now it feels like placing the highlights is a bigger challenge than making them smooth. Not sure what I want for base work here; Ned is an office worker, so I am leaning towards a base in a single color covered by a simple Earthshade wash, and then just fill the base with scattered papers, to make him seem like he is emerging from a shitstorm of office supplies.
One thing I'd really like some feedback on is my contrast. Is it too much? Not enough? Too harsh? Anything else?
I was also planning to go outside and get proper pictures of the Morgaur today, but can you believe it? It has freakin' SNOWED.
