for the base how about a tiled floor with Ned on a broken ledge (building had been smashed up) and if you can a zombie hand reaching up for his leg ?

Tero, can you offer any hint on how to do it better next time? The fact that it is supposed to be dark grey, not black, gives me a clue that something isn't quite right about it...

Oh, and BTW - Gandalf, that idea is great - but a bit beyond what will fit on the base, as a gaming piece there just isn't the space. But I really like the zombie hand idea... I'm going to see if I can work that in somehow. I just need to find a mini I can chop into pieces...

I think you can fit it in. You need maybe 2/3 of the base as the floor with a ragged edge and just the tiniest corner to have an arm coming up only showing the arm from the elbow.
you only have to hint at an office floor, a couple of lines to show a tiled floor. I think this is doable but maybe best for something a touch bigger.

Going to finish the bases once all of them are done. I have some ideas, so we'll see.

This is what I have done today:

Amy the goth. I struggled with her half the day, then breezed through the rest of the mini during the second half. I've done lousy prepwork on her and used too thick and too much paint her when doing basecoats half a year ago, and paid the price today. Still, I managed to get a result I am more or less pleased with. Face doesn't look as uneven IRL, but I won't claim that it is smooth. Need to improve on that. All I need to do now is some final highlights, and maybe redo the right eye (though I already did it once. ).

Next up is Kyoko in two versions:

In between while watching series and/or waiting for paint to dry, I'm painted up a load of Secret Weapon bases for my Dark Age minis. I want to have cool bases as much as the next guy, but once I am done with a mini, I get impatient and want it to be DONE. So for these, I've mass produced bases so that they are ready before the minis have even been primed.

I tried to use BloodFather's little step-by-step for patina on a couple of details, I didn't have the same pigments so I needed to wing it a bit. All in all, it got better than just using Nihilakh Oxide straight from the bottle, but now I want to shop for more pigments. The results were okay, I guess.

Oh, and while I am at it, I could use a word of advice on the swamp bases. Once the mini is mounted, I want to fill them with water effects. Being a swamp, I don't want the water to be crisp and clean... anyone have a good way to accomplish this?

Also, I got a follow-up on the water effects. I got a Secret Weapon bottle, but I realized that this will quickly be gone if I am to do 10+ bases. Can anyone recommend a cheap, easy to handle water effect? Keep in mind that I need to pour it into the base with the mini (and possibly some tall grass) glued in place, so it must be possible to pour it easily. Anything I can mix in a paint bottle and pour would also work.

Naah, it's from Armorcast. I do some scratch building, but that kind of detail is beyond me. Neat sculpt, below average cast and it took them months to ship it to me, so I can't really recommend it. It was nice for a lean back and just drybrush kind of paintjob, though, and it looks good on the table.

You should; it's rather inexpensive to get into, for $200 shipped I got two full armies, that's around 60 minis including some huge monsters. Did a trial run with my boys this weekend (as the minis are still in the mail), it runs smoothly and is loads of fun.

But did I? Nope. Started a new project last night:

I also learned some important lessons:

1) Gorilla glue reacts to moisture, including the moisture in spackle.

2) When Gorilla glue sets and/or reacts to moisture (two sides of the same thing), it expands. A LOT.

3) Gorilla glue is hard to clean up. Wear gloves, that is why you bought the gloves in the first place.

Lol gorilla glue. Had a boss who thought everything could be fixed with that stuff. (Im in the electronics field so figure that one out ) anyways I am super curious to see where you go with the chip board bases.
