oistene's WIP - a mostly dead space

Well, not SUPER quick, but the point was to get them out there fast, yes. Yet another learning exercise, since I pretty much think I know how I could do this faster and better now.

And that's the kind of attitude I can applaud with vigor and enthusiasm! *insert appropriately enthusiastic applause here* Nothing is a wasted experience I'm learning. Even miniatures I've put on hold have taught me a lot before I put them to one side.

Yeah, there's just SO MUCH to learn in this hobby, the road is the goal. I'm not a natural artist, so everything needs to be learned. Fortunately, I like learning and improving.

A warning about putting things to the side - while you got them on the side, you might find that when you take them out again, you've improved so much that you'll have a hard time trying to fix your previous errors. Been there. Just be ready for it.

Cryx looks pretty good with osl and everything. Same for the troops.

As for the wool not working: I think you sprayed too long with too much paint. To use the wool for some texture you need to go in light, just a small quick burst from the AB and done.
At the same time I can't see the wool making a convincing marble effect, so maybe it's better this way :)

Thanks all, and I think you are right, Maxxx, too heavy with the airbrush. And this does work - I learned of the approach from a guy on Facebook, he used it on some Eldar jetbikes. Looked fantastic, but I think I need to pull the mask tighter and go lighter on the brush. I'll try again at a later date.

Well oist I can honestly say you have me spell bound with all your work. I'm enjoying sitting back with a beer and saying dam...I like that...that too...and that...oh that's nice lol

Quite correct, gents. Not my first choice of minis, but I get money for it, and money is short these days. Elrond, foot and mounted, Elohir, foot and mounted, Eladan foot and mounted, Lindir foot and mounted, Gil-Galad and 30-some knights and warriors. Will keep me busy for a while.

The troops, very basic. So artistically speaking, it will be airbrush practise. The heroes will be simple table-top. So my focus is to be efficient, and not do more than I am being paid for, but at the same time deliver good looking models. It will be a challenge to strike the balance.

Ohhh I am sure I would not accomplish that task properly.... I would end up painting a lot more hours than being paid for...

Hoping you will be able to reach that balance, and intrigued on how you'll do it... will you share your process in the project with us all if you find time enough? I would be interesting ^^

Of course. :)

At this point, I've spent three hours doing prep only. I have a budget of nine point three hours for prep and assembly, so at this point... I think I won't make it. Going to spend one more hour today.

Not dropping my own projects even if I have a commission! My girls are nearly done, ready to seal and put on effects here. I'm undecided, green grass to add color and contrast, or yellow grass to add to the coast/beach look? (the wood is supposed to be driftwood)

Ooh - tough call. I'd still go with green to add some colour and contrast to the bases (which are looking cool btw). Perhaps include some yellow to tone the green down in places though.

Looking good.
I'd also go with green to give them a bit of contrast... but only a little bit, don't want them skipping through a grassy field. Possibly use a grass with a mixture of green, yellow and red to give the contrast but not overwhelm.

Mixing the grass types is tricky (going to use my new Flockbox TM!), but doable. I'll try that, it will probably look best and also be the most realistic. Thanks folks!

not sure if I am in time but you could add some wet/dry algae there so you would have some green and browns... You can do algae with thin strips of toilet paper... so it looks kind of those algae that lay at the beach....
