They said that it was an experiment to help scientists find cures for genetic diseases... I think they were bored. It was the big brain equivalent of \"Hey guys, watch this!\"

It\'s actually customizable technology. It\'s very handy. You know I may enjoy seeing it glow in the dark purple but whoever I\'m with may not want that color. It\'s an easy swap out. Really takes no time or trouble.

That better Vikey?

this isnt as unusual as it might seem - cloning green flourescent protein (gfp) in to organisms has been in practice for a long time (1960\'s):

these genes that prouce florescent proteins are typically used as a sort of experimental control. the gfp gene is typically attached to a gene of intrest (something being researched, either naturally occuring or cloned in) as a reporter so that it is easy to determine if the target gene is present (and expressed), where it might otherwise be difficult or expensive to determine. its quite useful really and fairly common/cheep/mundane. the media reports on this every year or so like its a new technique when its actually common place.
either way its an osl project begging to happen.

p.s. the flourescent proteins come in all the colors of the rainbow, the cats could just as easily have been purple.:)
