Wow, I can definately see why you\'ve been working on it for a while, that\'s intense! So much detail, in the mini and the base, very good!

Turned out great Funny! I remember this from a while back :D

Voted a 9

Specially like the way that you made the coldone and the rider stand out in different colours.

Is that a real branch with real leaves? if so, it\'s gonna die sometime :p If it\'s plastic it\'s ok :D hehe...

The base is awesome as well! Great job!!!

The leaves and foilage look very convincing.

Its a wild color scheme, thats for sure, but I think a bit more contrast, at least on the rider, would help.

Still an 8 from me!

I love the chameleon, how you painted the bark pattern on his tail! :D great stuff. A really cool lizardmenny mini, the base and the overall vibrant, tropical atmosphere you created is fantastic. Solid 8.5 :)

Very nice work with a massively bravecolour choice on such a nightmare model. The detail on this sculpt is ridiculous and you have done a great job indeed...

thanks for the positive support!

i wasnt sure how well it would be received - it is a nightmare of a model, and i was kind of out there..... i think the base is what really pulled off the crazy colors: in the context of a jungle it makes sense. im glad the tree came out as well as it did too, and most of the other details were decent (but i still might need some practice in the future). i think that working on a dispay base was a fantastic way of working on my basing skills, and i will be using what i learned on my smaller scale projects. i have a lot to learn about jungle bases...so i better get started. :D

p.s. did anyone see the snail?

the leaves are eaaasy guys. the ones in the base are fake aquarium plants. you can buy little packs for about $4 containing one fake plant with a few branches. selection is key! the ones on the ground with dead leaves under them are the very tops of a fake Elodea sp. - they make great skunk cabbage type plants. to get the right look i typically apply several washes of different colors to differentiate the plants if i am using several varieties of the same brand (which usually have the same base plastic color). ill also paint on veins and exaggerate depressions by painting them on more thickly. the key, though, is thin washes so that the leaves are still nearly translucent - giving them that fresh look. for the dead leaves on the bottom i used actual plant matter - sepals from a dried out flower, and painted them to match. tin foil is another excellent way of representing dead leaves (esp. when you would expect them to lose rigidity). simply template out the original leaf on to the tin foil, weather and paint as needed. ill post some pics of leaf prep stuff in the diorama base thread - you can really do some neat stuff, like yellowed, dying and damaged leaves (its the little stuff that makes it work). if you take you time it looks much better than what i did here.

Thanks Funnymouth look forward to seeing the tute..
I used to work in the pet trade and always played around with the aquarium plants ...
I guess it\'s down to a good idea and a nice combination of different materials..

wow, thanks bill, im glad you like it. :D. at first i was a bit apprehensive about doing another one of these big projects, but the positive feedback has encouraged me to give it another go at some point.

i think i am going to update this collage with a profile pic so the rider mount thing is more clear. anyhow. thanks again - and try out a jungle base! they\'re great fun!
