...speaking from the vantage point of having been a family law attorney for more than 20 years ....this is sadly often the case. You would be amazed at the shameful things parents do (to their kids) in order to try get whatever petty revenge against the other parent they think is more important than anything.
Congratulations. Having been found by your son is the first step of a much longer journey: establishing a life long relationship. Don\'t dwell on the childhood years lost--you\'ll never get those back. Today is the first day of the rest of your lives.

Just think! You get to know him as an adult with out having to deal with the diapers and all that. To be able to learn who he is on the inside will be wonderful. Good luck and keep us posted please!

That\'s an understatement.
My practice includes cases involving the UCCJEA (Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act) and the Hague Convention. While those acts/law may not ring a bell, the problem they were enacted to address is more commonly known as \"parental kidnapping\". In the US, we formerly had the PKPA (Parental Kidnapping and Prevention Act), which was later replaced by the more effective and comprehensive UCCJEA--which has been adopted by all 50 of the US states. Internationally, many forward thinking countries of the world are signers and participants to the Hague Convention which deals with international parental kidnappings.
I\'ve chased parents and tracked down kids around numerous of the States and the globe (cases in Europe and Asia), set up \"stings\" and worked with the respective local law enforcement to re-acquire custody of kids taken by one parent in order to make the child unavailable to the other parent.
When you say that people will do ***everything*** in their power to violate the law, the rights of the other parent, and the interests and emotional welfare of their own child about whom they supposedly care, ....you are not kidding. They will, and do, go to any lengths.

I\'m pretty close to that too, Mike. Say I was a really bad girl and had a kid @ 15 mine could be 33.
