Ok so I\'ve got my mini, paints and basing material.

What now?

Do I paint the mini first and then base? Do I base the mini and then undercoat the whole thing and then paint the mini and base?

What does everyone do?

Also I\'m painting LOTR figures (plastics at the moment). The tab doesn\'t fit all the way in the slot. What do you guys use to make the base \"whole\"?

Cheers

Depends on what sort of figure it is, and how integral the base is to the figure really. I tend to paint the figure seperately with one eye on what I want the base to do for it. Sometimes (as is the case with my current Gobbos, the bases are just done as a means to an end - as long as they are nice and neat, then I\'ll paints up the base fully before sitting the little chaps on.

However, in the case of my little diorama here, the base was fundamental in the positioning of everything so had to be done near enough at the same time.

Of course, there\'s no right or wrong - give it a whirl and see what happens!

Leaving the mini a bit high in the slot leaves room to add basing material without making the mini look like he is sinking.

I\'ve seen it often, mini well painted, glued to a slotta base (feet all the way down to plastic). Then sand and flock added to look like gravel field. But the gravel is over his boots. He\'s up to his ankles in the stuff.
