This is my first experience doing detailed conversions on any minis, so I would greatly appreciate any C&C or pointers you guys can provide.
So far I\'ve only completed one of the Orks that I\'m converting. I started with this guy here:
I don\'t need the axe for what I have planned, so I snipped it away and cleaned up all the mold lines. Then I scratchbuilt an orkish beer stien for our friend. The handle is bent styrene round rod, the stein is styrene round tube, and I used GS for all the other details. You can kind of make out a little design on the band around the center of the mug- I used the end of a mechanical pencil to place little marks around the band. I\'ll paint it to look like a decorative brass plate was riveted onto the sein. Gotta love Orkish engineering!
The left arm was holding a pistol of some sort, which I don\'t need at all, since this hand is going to have the Pointing Finger Of Doom! This isn\'t a cliche, as he\'ll actually be pointing at something when I finish this project.
Getting everything off without ruining the hand was a hard job, but I finally managed. I used twisted 28 gauge steel wire for the finger:
Aftr picking out a head, I attached the arm and GSed the gap. Then I sculpted on a new finger, which includes a fingrnail clearly marked, along with the line of the glove marked as well, but that\'s hard to see in the pics. I also made some lines with the end of a needle to indicate wrinkles in the skin around the knuckles.
I also sculpted some foam onto the top of the beer stein. I started with a small ball of GS, which I slowly formed so it covered the top of the stein, and then I pushed it down the side where it\'s leaning forward, to show a little spillage. Then I used the end of a pin to poke a lot of little holes into the entire foam section. This is a beautiful effect in person, and will look great when it\'s all painted up!
