They made handguns illegal in this country...

Now however, more people get shot than ever before???

Possibly something to do with the fact that only the criminals are armed....

Same thing is happening here, finn.

Sad recent story: a nightclub doorman shot and killed a guy who attacked the doorman who refused to admit the attacker. Turns out the guy who sold the illegal gun to the doorman was the brother of the guy who got shot and killed.

Sad but true, and what bitter irony.

Markus, fact of the matter is you shoulda both been arrested and whatever, glad you\'re still alive, though.:)

Not to mention the local drink/drive lobby

I actually admire Mark for his honesty. A lot of people either forget or are unaware that \'driving whilst under the influence\' is a relatively new crime/taboo.

There was a huge fuss in this country when Barbara Castle, who was then minister of transport, introduced the \'Breathalyser\'???

In the 70s, when I first started frequenting pubs, having a few bevvies and then driving home...amazingly...wasn\'t taboo.

Right to Bear Arms...

Somehow Marcus, as much as he has proven what an upstanding citizen he obviously is, I doubt said individual who shot the poor pup was using a legally obtained firearm.....

Hmmmm.....

(sigh)

I\'ve been having trouble with this since I read it... :(

I wasn\'t trying to advocate drunk driving or anything... in fact I was trying to prove how stupid it is. I think Finn understood where I was coming from...

This occurred in 1979, when drinking with your buddies and driving home half crocked was common place. It was a different time... Driving drunk was only a traffic infraction back then, not a crime. About the equivalent of driving without insurance then, a $200 fine. Usually a cop would drive you home back then and not even bother to report it. I\'m not saying this attitude was right, it was just \'no big deal\'.

Fortunately the laws have come a long way. If they had been stricter back then maybe I would of gotten my act together sooner, along with about a million other stupid people...

And maybe alot of lives would have been saved...

Fortunately I never hurt anyone but myself; don\'t think I could have lived with that. And I didn\'t think I was \'being cool\' either, I was actually considered a nerd by the 70\'s standards. The \'cool\' kids were not only drinking, but stealing cars and knocking up their girlfriends.

It was just one night of stupidity, in a long list of stupid things I did as a kid. By 1979 laws, I\'m pretty sure the only person who would have been arrested was the other guy; leaving the scene of an accident, reckless endangerment, attempted murder, etc...

I was just some dumb kid that was the victim of a maniac... :(

but... whatever...

MT, I know where you are coming from. Up through the 70\'s it was still legal to drink beer while driving in Texas. You could actully pass a highway patrol while sucking down a longneck and be perfectly fine as long as you could keep it between the lines.

And several times when I was young, the cops would find us - tell us to pour out the rest of the beer and go home. Today, no way.

they said that he was adopted out :D
.....
Had another pit come in to the hospital yesterday, Shot by the police. Sweet thing. Had a bullet loged in its neck.

Owners came to get the dog today. The PD raided there house, to find out it was all a big mistake..... They shot at the dog 8 times..... thank goodness they only hit once... and that they didnt kill the dog. Again, it was a sweet thing. Dont know how it wa on its own place, but at the hospital it was nice.

The cops told the owners that the dog wasn\'t hit.....

They are going to have ... a hard time proving it since the x-rays and the bullet sitting at my work, says otherwise.

Well at least the cops only shot 8 times.... they had a better percentage then a month or so ago.....
I forget where in, LA area, PD shot at a guy in an SUV, 128 times and only hit 3 times..... (again all of them not life threating) .... PD really need to do practice.

Ever play paintball? Granted there is cover fire and things to the like, but out of 500 paintballs i\'d say only 20-30 hit somebody. Most hit the bunker they\'re hidding behind. BUT there have been games i\'ve taken only 20 paintballs and cleared the field, made the turn and got in behind the remaining opposing team and got their serrender paintball-lesslol Best paintball story i\'ve got... it\'s 2 on 5 and the first shot i take the marker struggles to recock (out of CO2... uh oh!) but my buddy\'s my only teamate... can\'t call out just \'cause i aint got no air! Well, the first paintball hit the guy who was crawling up to us and i made the run down the feild, shot a guy in the back, my buddy took down a third guy, i walked the last two guys out of a fox hole airless. That got a

Peope who are cruel to animals and children deserve it back tenfold.

I was raised a hunter. We hunted rabbits, ducks, kangaroos, feral goats, feral pigs, and on occassion, feral cats. We also hunted by strict rules:

1) If you\'re going to kill it, kill it cleanly. Headshots were the rule, not the exception. If you couldn\'t take it down clean, you didn\'t.

2) Don\'t kill it if you won\'t eat it. We ate everything we shot. My father made this point abundantly clear by forcing me to eat a fly I had squashed. After that, I got the idea.

3) The second rule does not apply to feral cats.

I\'m not a monster. I\'ve killed a few cats in my time, but they were all feral, and all mean looking things. In Australia, cats get into the wild and slaughter huge numbers of indigenous birds. They get bigger, and meaner, and with each subsequent generation, worse. I\'m not sorry I\'ve shot those animals. I just think of shooting introduced species as restoring the balance a little.

As to owies, I\'m a cleanskin. My dad\'s covered in tattoos, he\'s offered me one for my birthday and for christmas every year for the past five years. He\'s also said that if I get any piercings, he\'ll rip them out. go figure.

i\'m not a hunter, but i thought head shots were frowned apon? The reason i was told that is you\'re likely to shot off it\'s jaw and have it run away, unable to eat it\'ll just get tortured by whatever animal finds and eats it. i\'ve never been hunting, but have taken lots of target practice while restoring my Grandpa\'s .22 and everyone who talked to me told me shot at the shoulder blade of the animal to take it down and kill it the most humanly. But, like i said, i\'ve never actually hunted so for all i know this is the wrong info. Just courious.

Itchy, it depends on the size and on the animal. Large grazers (deer, elk, etc.) are generally heart shot. People depend on the range and amount of motion.

Good old scarification.

Remember seeing this done on MTV many years ago. It was meant to be the album cover but the censors got to it first!

:D

No thanks, I\'ll stick with the emotional scarification!

The doggy\'s plight and everyone\'s justified indignation reminds me of a judicial combat from the middle ages. There was this guy who murdered a dog owner and evidently the dog was the primary witness. The dog was to act as the deceased\'s champion. The defendant was allowed to use a club, but, because he was taller than the dog, he was placed waist-deep in a pit to negate the height difference. The dog was given no special advantages but still got medieval on his @$$.
