Oz Golden Demon underway.

Spent yesterday in typical GD style up until 5am doing my entries, only got 2 done... 1st round is over, apparently they had a massive number of people registering, but if the Sydney store was anything to go by not many actual entries.

LOTR single was fierce with only my legolas entered, I barely scrapped through unopposed... Warhammer single was tougher, but again I just snuck through (although this being the weaker mini I fear I will fail in round 2).

If I\'d emptied my cupboards and entered something in each category I reckon I would have qualified in everyone, there were no or only 1 entry for half the categories...

The youngbloods was better represented, with some nice work. I actually think the new format may encourage more entries by the younger painters, for one thing it was only $8 to enter a bit more pocket money friendly than games day.

Well I\'m keeping my fingers crossed for Bronze in LOTR single :)

(oh and no pics, I forgot to take any and now those nice GW chappies have the minis to take to the next round, nice of them to save me a trip to Paramatta :) )

Not strange at all. It used to be done in a similar way in the UK.

A nationwide series of store competitions to select the best painters in that area. Winners used to get a free Gamesday ticket and a rather spiffy enamelled brass Golden Demon badge with the year on it(similar to the finalists badges this year except nicer :D....).

It was rather good to be honest :)

Good Luck! I can\'t wait to see pics of your entries - fingers crossed for a demon... maybe next year I\'ll grow some 8-balls and enter the UK Demon.... then again, maybe not ;)

Yep I remember it being done that way, I think the biggest complaint and one of the reasons why it was stopped was because of the complaints about damage/loss of entries by the store staff.

Good luck Trevor. if I ever get near as good as you I may even enter one year. But then again Glenn Lamprech (Cant spell his name) now works for GW and lives in Qld so I wouldnt stand much of a chance getting past him. Post pics ASAP

If Glenn is working for GW, then he can\'t enter....

@ banjo

yes I won 40K gold last year and LOTR silver the year before, so now I want a Bronze :D

Is that how they stop them from wining each year. maybe I\'ll enter next year then.
I hope you do better than a bronze I love your work. Good luck once again.

We had quite a few entries at Highpoint. I think more than the rest of the Victorian stores combines. I\'m through to the next round in both WFB siingle and LOTR single. Both my figures are drab so I don\'t hold much hope of getting to Sydney. I didn\'t go to bed Friday night, and painted both figures this week. I guess I got through my painters block.

The bad point is, even if I do better than I expect I can\'t go to Sydney due to a pre-existing family gathering.:(

O, and Ogrebane, enter. from what I\'ve seen of your stuff you have a flair for conversion and you are achieving scores equal or better than mine on Coolmini. You never know what might happen - Your Ogres for instance would definately be in the regionals, and you\'d have a one in four chance of going to Sydney (if you were in Victoria).

It\'s as much the fault of us New Zealanders that it\'s being run this way. Now we can enter without going to Australia :D

I got through round one with my logan grimnar but I\'m highly doubtful I will go further.

@ paintingploddy, well my Legolas is very drab too, and my WFB single Saurus Lord is none too bright either :)

From what I\'ve seen of your work, you stand an excellent chance. What were your entries?

And you are OK to go all the way...

From the rules:

Should they qualify for subsequent rounds of Golden Demon, Competitors can choose to transport their entry to the venue of these rounds or let Games Workshop transport them on their behalf.

The latter is what I\'ve done, although I notice we were supposed to attach the registration number, which I didn\'t do.

I think the organisation was a little haphazard this year. The times were on the board for registration and judging however they seemed to judge categories whenever, and there were many entries accepted late in the day.

I painted a pestigor (rotting filthy looking things score well for me here) and I chose an Uruk hai carrying Pippin from the Amon hen boxed set. Glad I did, most people went something good, and the Uruk kind of stands out with the lack of colour. I don\'t know if it was the same elsewhere but Mumakil (or Oliphaunts) were very popular at highpoint.

Good luck at the Regionals, I think the competition gets tough at that point. :)

I point people interested to this thread on WargamerAU for summaries of entries from different stores. Due to the nature of the competition, I don\'t think you\'ll find many photos at this stage of the competition.

I had my 3 entries ready fairly early compared to the last 2 years I entered. Got through to the regionals which is a start. I\'m not a youngblood anymore though so it should be interesting. Saw a few great entries in the chermside store in brizzy.
P.S OOoo I\'m mentioned in that WGAU thread, second page (Max Kuebler)
