nah Marcus I think you\'re selling yourself short (i\'m just happy to make the finals and people say nice things about my stuff mate)...your monster 40k and single figure fantasy are excellent in any competition...LOTR moster is oustanding.

Gav :)

@Slardy I can only hope. I thought the article he wrote meant he was working for them. Oh well I\'ll enter next year anyway and see how I go.

Round 2 results are up HERE

Grats to everyone who made it, I\'m surprised but my warhammer single made it through, but I\'ve now seen pics of of some of the other entries and I have to say I don\'t stand a chance, way too many errors on mine to go any further, just glad it did as well as it has. All hopes now rest with legolas, unfortunately someone else has done one too and I have to say I think its better than mine :(

Grats to Bevan who made it through with his beastman, looks really nice, in with a chance for a demon I would say.

Nice work trevor. That level of painting is nearly enough to scare me of entering next year. I guess I have alot of work to do. i really love the base for the Lizard.

Thanks Trevor, I\'ve seen some of the opposition though and it is strong.

I\'m hoping you do beat out the other Legolas, Rob can\'t win the LOTR single four years running. Yours is better than anything coming north in that category. I\'m also looking forward to seeing better pics of the Lizardman, I don\'t think that angle does him much justice apart from showing off the pose.

I think Zordana might shake up the categories a little, her LOTR single is very well done, and that particular figure has proven awinner in the UK GD. My money is on her to provide a surpise or two in the placings.

lol Hmmm, I think he\'s gonna be one of those minis that looks better in photos :) When I get them back I\'ll be sure to take some proper shots.

I agree, I\'ve always thought Zordana\'s stuff was underrated.

LOTR single always seems to lack top quality entries, just look at what won silver in 2003! ;) I think Rob\'s entries have always stood out as being top work.

I just had an interesting thought. I know its been mentioned online that the GD judges didn\'t want to see picks of stuff before the judging so they didn\'t have any bias.

I\'m curious then who is doing the final judging? Will they have already seen the entries in Parramatta or will they be coming in totally \'fresh\'? Anyone know?

Well, the head judge is Andrew Long - the manager of a store in Melbourne. He has done it for a few years now, as for the other two judges, my guess is Laurie Goodridge and Troy Forster - both more than able (both in their own painting ability and ability to spot a well painted mini). Nothing has been confirmed, but if I were a betting man, I\'d bet they will be the ones.
I am told there is a judging bias against NMM stuff, but that is merely hearsay. Several NMM entries have won in the past...
Well I think the field is wide open this year, a few unknowns have come out of the woodwork, and the pics we have already seen show some merit. I think as long as the judges are consistent, and adhere to their own rules, it should run smoothly.
No offence to Trevor here, but his nurgle terminator last year (although very well painted and converted) seemed to fly in the face of the background and ethos they talk about in their guidelines - Grey Knights are supposed to be incorruptable - so again, I think it will be down to pot luck on the day.
I have seen pics of some entries that were technically painted well, but the colour schemes used were just plain yuk :]
Again, I\'ll be happy if I walk away with anything - despite somehow managing to get 9 into the finals lol
But the 26th of November can\'t come quick enough...

Hey I\'m only 13 and I got into the finals with Vic Lamb, I go to the same store as her. Also my Goblin Squig Herder got through in the Youngbloods:)

i got throught to the regional finals in my first year - go me... it\'s number 105444 if you want a look...

however, i was a bit unhappy with the policing of various new rules and entry times at my local sotre (Melbourne).

Wonder if he\'s managed to not look at any of the Melbourne entries :)
I\'m not in anyway bothered about this, I was just curious if any of the final round judges would have already seen some of the entries at the local level and whether it really would be a negative thing if they had.

I really hope they aren\'t biased against NMM, both my entries use it lol

Thanks for the kind words guys :)

It would be very nice to walk away with something, but I\'m not going to hold my breath. This GD is like a practise run for me and I was surprised to get to the finals so anything after this is a major bonus :D Plus I get to go to Sydney and see my family for a few days. Woohoo!

Trevor, ive got nmm on a couple of my entries as well so hopefully they aren\'t biased against it!

Congrats to everyone who made it through.

Andrew Long was at the Highpoint store back on day 1. I think he would be very familiar with the entries coming from Melbourne. It comes back to that old chestnut of conflicts of interest.

I don\'t think there would be too much of a conflict, besides, Andrew really needs and wants, to be seen doing the right thing. Much is riding on the success of this years comp, I don\'t think anything will be done to jeopardise it (deliberately).
I just hope there is consistency in adhering to their stated guidelines, particularly in regards to background and ethos, as sometimes the conversion has gone against the ethos of the background in the past (and i\'m not referring to Trevor here :) ) and the paintwork has taken precedence.
I\'d also LOVE an official stance on the use of old or out of production models in the comp, as I feel there may be an unofficial line which effectively rules them out of contention. This can mislead painters who spend an awful lot of time on an entry which can never win simply because the model is rare or hard to find.

Yeah that last points an interesting one, 2 of the entries I was going to do but never got to were gonna be really old minis, one being a little dragon.

I got ot the finals of Golden Demon but I probably won\'t win anything, because i\'ve been in England and I forgot about it so i had to quickly enter something that was nearly done. I had an hour a the store but in the rush i made a mistake, I was doing the fingernails when i went over the edge onto the skin, just a little bit. Does anybody know if this is really major or just minor?
