Painted Minis in Catalogues, Yay or Nay?

I often go looking round websites for some random figure to paint just because it is a nice mini.

But when I look at these minis I much prefer to see them unpainted. I\'m not sure what it is, maybe its that I want to look at it and think about what I would do with it, rather than what someone else has done with it.

The other day I was looking at the Ilyad minis on Gamer\'s Quest. I\'ve wanted to do one of these for a while since everyone says their quality is excellent. However, all of the models on the Ilyad catalogue pages are painted. It kind of saps the imagination out of me I guess

So ladies and gents, obviously we all love to see fantastically painted minis for display purposes, we wouldn\'t be here if we didn\'t. But when you are looking at miniatures to buy, do you prefer to see them painted, or unpainted?

Cheers

I prefer painted. I find it is often difficult to gain a good, solid interpretation of a mini if it is bare lead. Tough to see all the little \"fiddly bits.\"

Plus I like well painted figures.

Have to agree with Jake. For every mini I start, I look for pics of painted versions so that I can see what is not so obvious on the naked or primed mini. Painted examples reduce the wtf-is-that syndrome. However, before doing so, I have an idea of how I\'m going to paint it.

You need a \"C\" cateegory. Actually when shopping for minis, I like to see them both ways. Seeing them painted is nice for all teh reasons previously stated. Its also nice, though, to see them unpainted, just the way they\'ll arrive at my door. WHat\'s wrong with having your cake and eating it, too. :D

for me painted as well... for the same reasons as mentioned above. Agree that having a bare metal AND painted verion is even better.

That\'d be me sitting on the fence next to Dauber on this one.

In an ideal way, both, but no-one is likely to do that...............in print at least.

yet another option (and if you\'re vigilant, keeping an eye on some message boards you get to see this) would be seeing the sculpt/green/master; simply the icing on the cake. Something about seeing the artisans work prior to become a casting that makes me appreciate a mini even more.

in the real world - painted please :D
