OMG!!!

I go to cancun for 8 days and this is what happens...Klute becomes a professor????

Damn! And before I left I started a reaper barbarian figure.

Klute, I would like to participate in your class. But I am behind as I was away. Can I, work on my barbarian this week and add pics to this post OR, just so I don\'t disturb/annoy others who have been here since the start of the thread, email the pics to you directly?

Well, I want to see. And you might just as well tack your pics onto the end of the topic as usual, otherwise we have to keep coming here for something new. There\'s as much learning here from the others as there is from Klute, me thinks.

So, on with the show.
Here is my phase 2 with the amazon. I\'ve included it with the phase 1 to show the difference, but could post a bigger pic if necessary.
This is roughly 50/50 basecoat/VA flat flesh.
The flat flesh is hard to work with because it\'s pretty thick. I have to mix it with the water and Future thoroughly, then add the other color. If I don\'t, I get streaks and chalkiness.
Sorry I couldn\'t get the same angle both pics.
So, my question for teach is, am I hitting the right spots with the lighter color? Have I covered too much? TWO! My two questions for teach are....(Python moment passing)
Oh, and am I ready to go to straight flesh? or should I do some intermediary stage first. The transition on the pallet looks huge, but as it\'s a glaze it may not be so vast.

Looking good.You seem to be highlighting up to the right areas.
Ive highlighted the areas on the next pic you should be heading toward.

With moving on to the next mix you want to be aiming at glazing with the mix you have until the last places you glaze are the same tone as the paint in your pallette.Or near as possible.
Once you get to that point you can move on to the next mix.
Yes the mixes do look large steps but as you rightly say this does not matter.I started using this technique with just 2 mixes.The base colour then glazed up to elf flesh.
You can also use it to blend colour changes very well.

I will photograph it tonite. Then will start the layers on top of it. Should have photos by Saturday as tomorrow after work and gym, i gotta DM my D&D party

what does it mean when I\'m putting on the next color, and I draw the brush across the area and one of 2 things happens:
1 - when I reach the end and lift the brush off there is a little blob of color just where the brush last stopped
or
2 - as I draw the brush across an area, parallel lines of color appear on the outside edges of the brush stroke.

Mmm, 1 sounds like too much paint on the brush.

Now #2.. hmm, could be that the sides of the brush are making those lines, try to apply less pressure with the stroke.. could be it, if it ain\'t.. I don\'t know what

Here is Rowena with some reworking of the skin, hair, and lips. The photos don\'t show the lips well--I\'ll try and get a better closeup. Is she getting any better, professor?

One other question--she still looks a bit \"grainy\" to me in the photo, but I feel less so in real life? Do I need to adjust the contrast setting on the photoshop? Or are the closeups just so close that all the little clumps are being seen?

@Vincegamer....definitely sounds like too much mix on the brush on both questions.Keep a piece of white paper handy and draw the brush across it.You should be aiming at the look I have in the earlier pic.

@Jabberwocky.........it does still look a bit rough but to me it looks like one of those sculpts you cant do much with.Once all the other detailing is done the eye will be drawn to them though so dont worry.I would take the highlights up further though.Just slightly if you want to keep the dark skin(which I think would look best on this figure)
The way the glazes work it means you can darken then highlight back and forth till you get the look you want many times.

@Valloa.......very very nice.I would be tempted to darkline the hair a bit more.Maybe scorched brown.Very thin with flow enhancer and just stroke the line and let cappilliary action draw the paint along a bit.Very much my own taste though and it looks great as is.

Well it isn\'t as pretty as Valloa\'s, but here is the progress so far. I thought it was pretty neat and so I\'m including the whole line-up.

Unfortunately when taking the last pic I forgot to return the camera to highest quality so it\'s not as good a pic, but it gets the idea across.
1=just base coat
2=base/VA flat flesh 50/50
3=flat flesh
4=flat flesh/white 50/50 then smaller 30/70
5=reglazed with base coat.
I\'m pretty pleased with it. (or at least I was until I saw Valloa\'s )
I think I might need to tone down the right arm a bit.
Should I tone down the breasts? The transition looks a bit sudden to me.
I\'m disappointed a bit that the face seems less characterful than when it started but I\'m hoping lips will fix that.

So here is what I have done so far...

after several attempts at glazes...

Ok..so some details.

I used different colours for the barbarian. THe basecoat is vallejo dark flesh i think it\'scalled with a bit of brown to darken it.

The glaze \"washes\" on the smaller areas are the same as above with elf flesh, and then elf flesh and dark flesh, and then just elf flesh but only did a couple layers.

FInally i did a little wash of dark flesh+elf flesh+brown since contrast was too great

so now...if this procedure is acceptable, should ic ontinue with elf flesh+dark flesh or just pure elf flesh with thin layers (or mix white with it), or is my problem that I used different colours than you did?

It doesn\'t look right to me at all

I\'m thinking it may be since I used different colours.
