Lots of tutorials there. From Tutofig, I found the following to be particularly good.

They recommend a light brown base color and even lighter hash markings on the edges, and then bring it all down with a sepia tone wash. I used it on a Bones cloud giant which has thick leather straps, with excellent results.
This is the best leather effect I've ever seen, it's not too hard to do, and after a few attempts you get the hang of it.
