Painting with the top brand ( Argueably.)

Hey y\'all you painting freak.

It\'s me again, just a quick post to express my happiness.

I finally got the money to buy the first \"luxury\" I had for a while, I needed some motivation to start painting again so I did it... I bough the complete Vallejo Game color kit:flip:

Now I remember those who where saying that better paint doen\'t make the painting better, I agree, but it sure makes the painting time a whole lot more enjoyable, It simply feels better, on the brush.

Well maybe it is psychologic cause 240$ is a lot of money for paints and it was greatly anticipated... but the important thing is that it works for me, and that I painted 6 hours yesterday and enjoyed it.

So, if all goes well, you should see new minis from me soon.

I think somtimes this hobby SEEMS expensive, but its downright reasonable if you think about it.

For instance $240 is not chump change, but think about how long you will get use out of that (provided you stick with the hobby).

The same for miniatures. A high quality miniature might run you 10 bucks or so. But if it takes you 20 hours to paint it, that is pretty cheap entertainment. Plus at the end you have (hopefully) a lovely little token of your time. It still has worth and value, if you are a decent painter, more value than you paid for it...

So for 300 bucks, you could get all that paint, a handfull of minis, glue, files, and brushes....(and thats only high because you got the WHOLE set)

Now consider the same investment towards other types of entertainment.
300 bucks would buy you an Xbox 360 and maybe two games. Not bad, but eventually the games will get tiresome.

300 could get you an IPOD with a good selection of songs, or buy a shitload of novels to read.

Nothing wrong with any of those forms of entertainment I suppose, but it just seems to me miniatures represent the biggest bang for my buck.

Whoever said better paint doesn\'t make the painting better was a fool.

There are thousands of different types of paint, oils, acrylics, gauche, fingerpaints (yay!!!), and a million different brands, consistencies, pigments, shades, and qualities.

Now, better paint won\'t make someone a better PAINTER, but it\'s definately going to make the painting easier.

It\'s like a master chef using either a ginsu knife or a rusty pocket knife: He can probably achieve great results with both, but he\'ll certainly enjoy using a better knife, and that makes it a little easier to succeed.


So enough of that, get some work up for us to see!

sadly 300 bucks cant really get you an ipod anymore.
all they have now are the video ones which are way over priced.

i got a rather large set of vallejo as well, and i couldnt be happier. the only problem i have is trying to find the right color. so many paints to go thru!
im too lazy to paint the tops with the color. lol

$300 cdn probably wouldn\'t get a decent set of golf clubs. Let alone shoes, balls, bag, cart, etc.

$300 might get you a decent rifle or handgun to go to the range with, but would leave very little if any for ammo.

$300 might get you a night on a casino cruise. Granted the cruise is free, but there is very little to do on the boat but gamble.

$300 would get a geat set of running shoes and a pair of shorts.

$300 would get a lot of fishing gear, but not a boat, well a canoe maybe.

My (American made) canoe just cost me about $1500. I wont expand on how much it subsequently cost to fit the damn thing out.

my best/cheepest hobby has been Disk-Golf. It doesn\'t hurt that I live a few minutes from one of the top 5 courses in the US. But disks have cost me about $50, a round is $1 donation (optional), and lasts a few hours each time, and gets me outside, and is a fairly good excersise.

Anyway, I do think the most imporant thing about paints is how comfortable you are with them, and sometimes that\'s due to physical properties of the paint, sometimes that\'s due to psychological factors, either way, both are valid.

Its like paintbrushes, iv just bought a set of sable brushes, i can get the same results with these brushes as i could with my GW brushes but now its quicker, easier and less fustrating (My GW brushes kept forking when loaded with paint meaning i could only put a tiny amount of paint if i was doing small detail.) So overall my more expensive brushes have been worth the cost.
