Hello all.

I\'ve done a couple of display pieces that I really want to base on a wooden plinth effect thing :D Can anyone tell me where I can get hold of one?

Thanks

Is this what you mean?

Hi, I have some wooden bases of my own, but I got them from a model club I was a member of some years ago.

However, I found this for you - hope it\'s the right thing!

Try making them?

It is quite easy to make square or rectangular bases. All you need is a square or rectangle of wood cut to the size you need. Most DIY stores sell wood \'mouldings\', these are long strips of wood which have been shaped tp provide \'trim\' on cabinets etc. All you need to do then is use a mitre block to cut the moulding to the right lengths at 45 degree angles and fit them around the edge of your wood.
Imagine making a very small picture frame but using wood instead of glass...does that make any sense??:D

lol so true!

I usually trawl around charity shops and local cake shops for stuff like this as getting these from Trophy shops seems to be very expensive. :D

Edit:

Jeff Wilhelm also makes bases to size:

and his eBay store

Only the square or rectangular ones. Circular ones would need all sorts of clever and expensive tools like routers and end up costing about a hundred pounds each:flip: (Some men would still go down this route however)

I have tried but...

I am in full time education and I don\'t have the time to raise the money to spend on some nice new equipment which is definately a must! (I found out to my horror as a blunt saw decimated my fancy and expensive trim!) At the moment I am also saving up for a new bike and was made redundant last month!. :(

To be honest at the moment I am wanting circular ones. (but soon ill need a square one for my GD 2004 entry! 100 hours gone and I\'ve only finished one!)

finn, ill show you my results in the future! (prepare to be shocked and appauled lol)

Thanks for the help everyone.

I\'m female and own a 7 1/4\" circular saw, a scoll saw, a router, drill, and sander.

Of course, I\'ve always been told I\'m the exception to the rule.

Especially now, however, check your local home improvement stores. I guarantee you they are running sales and you can get a decent router (remember, you don\'t need one that is for professionals who do woodworking and finishing for a living) for about 50USD. Black and Decker makes a halfway decent one that I think is even less than that. :D

Also, at a lot of craft and home improvement stores, if you look in the pre-made shelving areas you can find pre-routed and unfinished (no stain or polyurethane) pieces in oak, pine, maple, and other nice woods. A couple of biscuits or a screw from beneath to join the pieces and you\'ve got your plinth. Also, most places (at least in the US) will cut the wood you purchase to specific sizes (although you still have to buy the whole thing).

Oh....I\'ve only got a Dremmel, 2 drills and a sander. But with my Sniper rifle, I can just about anything I want ;) lol lol

I\'ve been wanting a Dremel but just can\'t decide which one to get. They have that one massive \"it\'s got everything\" kit now for about $100 USD that I\'m kinda drooling over.

Unfortunately I won\'t be able to do anything useful with my tools for about another 7 or 8 months.

No sniper rifle or even guns in our house, either, although I do have several swords (one which I made back when I was learning welding).

I still have more power tools than my husband. :p Saws, drills, sanders, nailer, compressor, etc..

I used to work in a wood-working shop some years back.

My favorite is my dremel with the foot pedal speed control. I find it is much safer and handier that way. You can actually turn it off almost instantly after you have managed to drill a hole in yourself.

Well I do own other \"tools\" too. But those only get taken out when the husband is out of town. :D

Peace!
:innocent:
