Pegazus's Pile of Pminiatures (WIP)

Maybe just me, but I'd say you're fine on the highlights for what you're trying to accomplish.
No, that's what I was hoping for. Going for good tabletop. I think I just got stuck with the traditional "three shades": base, shadow, and highlight.

That said, it means the next video can be edited and put up. Then it'll be two, maybe three quick detail videos. Finish up with the article itself, and I should be able to finish this weekend.

Glad to hear it! I don't think I mentioned what camera. It's a Logitech... uh... camera.

Ah! Here it is! Logitech HD Webcam C615. It was on sale, and wasn't a large purchase. Regular price at Best Buy is $70. Does 1080p HD video and pictures at 8MP. Saw some that were $200+. Ouch! Thing that pushed me over the edge on using it rather than a similar one (which I don't recall) was that this one had the fitting for a tripod mount. Figure I'll start using this for just my regular pictures too, since I'm able to physically set the focus via the computer interface. That's been the most problematic part of my gallery pictures.

No real place I'd rather put it, but just rolled the digits on the number of minis voted upon! Sitting at 10k+ now. I'm so proud of myself. Been a goal for a while.

Yeah, yeah. Not a WIP. I'll get back to painting.

Got some more paint put onto the wench. Working on the details of the corset this round, plus a little bit on the amulet/gem that's on her dress near her hips. Anybody know what that would be called? Not a necklace. Is there such a thing as a hiplace?

Started with Grass Green (9014) to do the lacing and the bits around the edges. Went with a mix of the Grass Green and Sunlight Yellow (9008), but that just didn't look contrasty enough. So, went with straight Sunlight Yellow. That turned it more yellow with green shading, but eh. Unfortunately, I was too excited to get to the video work and forgot to take a picture of it with just the green lacing.

Video is uploading now, but I can go ahead and set up the link. If nothing appears, then it hasn't finished yet.

Oh, and also, I've decided to do the blacksmith without videos. Doing the videos double the time, possibly even triple. So, to have something to do while the video renders and locks up the camera while it does so, I figure I could get started on another mini. Have two going at the same time. Another option is to decrease the resolution of the video to a lower setup so it can do the compression routine in real-time. But, I'd prefer the full HD experience.

So here's the first shot of the blacksmith. It's going to use the same limited pallet, so that'll make things simple on me, but expand out on trying to make things look dirty, grimy, soggy, and such.

As an aside, if anybody notices a broken image, please let me know. I think the computer is caching my images even though I give it a hard reload command. I had something funky with the photobucket libraries and had to move some of the wench pictures around. My fear is that I've broken something but can't see it yet.

All your pics and vids seem to be in the right place, ie right where you put 'em, over the last few pages.
Started watching through, v. good so far :) Not up to date yet, I just had to go paint something.
Which reminds me, I should update my WIP thread...

Glad to hear RayzrYR. What photobucket did was really strange, and was very worried things were broken.

So after a frantic weekend, setting up the kids on YouTube accounts and other internet software paraphernalia, I finally got back to some painting today. And she's done! Started out on her shoes, a simple base of Tanned Leather (9031), then gave the hiplace straps the same color. Skipping over the middle parts of the video (coming tomorrow perhaps), I gave them a wash of Muddy Brown (9028). I'd been using the Muddy Brown for the base, which I also gave a wash of Pure Black (9037). All that was left then was her lips, Blood Red (9003) and then the jewelry metallics. As I'm using the limited pallet, went with a mix of Tanned Leather (9031) and Sunlight Yellow (9008). This gave a rather nice brassy, mustard yellow. That did the edges of the hiplace amulet, the ankle bracelet, and the two bracelets on her hand.

Damn! Just realized I could paint her fingernails. Okay, looking again, it'd be "a" fingernail. Everything else is tucked away. Nah. I'm done. I'll clear coat her tomorrow after work. Here's the picture:

Started in on Elliwyn and the Blacksmith. Started with the eyes this time. Went with Muddy Brown (9028) for a base on the eyes, then Yellowed Bone (9143) for the whites... wait, whites? Uh, carrying on. Sapphire Blue (9016) for the pupil. It looks really rough and blobby on Elliwyn and is nearly unnoticable on the Blacksmith. But! I think when I paint the skin of the face, it'll look much better. If not, I do a video where I strip a mini. Joys of joy.

Manged to work the face on Elliwyn this morning. Then the eyes. Twice. Maybe even three times. The photo still makes things look horrid, but only when compared with other people! I'm trying to think the last set of "normal, human-like" eyes were that I painted. Had to check my gallery. Since my Wolfen diorama really was just pulling together some things I'd painted quite a while before posting, I'd say Kit & Kat from September of 2010 was the last time I painted human eyes. Oh dear me. I've painted EIGHT sets of human eyes. EVER. And three of those sets were in the last month. Coming up on seven years painting, or one set of eyes per year. Uh, yeah, no wonder I suck at it!

I thought of making a little set of press molded eyes in a block, where I could practice on twenty sets of eyes at a time before stripping it. Thought about making it a marketable product, too. But then I'm lazy, so someone else can have the idea should they want it.

Anyway, here's Elliwyn's new and improved eyes. Did Fair Skin (9047) as the base for the skin, and used the same eye paints as before.

Video is still loading, but will be available in a half hour of so. I'd hold off linking to it, but gotta run and do the last cub scout meeting forever! I've recently realized just how badly I've resented having to go to these meetings, and so seeing the end of them is very happy for me. I get every other Friday off, and it eats into the middle of an afternoon I could be painting. And on my working Fridays, I have to make up the time beforehand, so it eats into my evening of painting. Which, I probably don't do anyway. But it's the whole being forced not to paint. Or so it seems to me.

I've got a GW rant brewing too. Just have to figure out where and when to regurgitate it. Not sure if I want to do it here, or wait for a nice long paiinting stretch in the videos, or wait for the next "I hate GW" thread to pop up.

Absolutely bitten by the demotivation bug. Wanted to do absolutely do ZERO on any mini. But, push through, and do just the skin on the blacksmith, Tanned Skin (9044). And then since I had the paint on the pallet, worked on Elliwyn too. Shaded her face with the same paint, and made the video of it. Wound up doing 45 minutes of work when I intended just 15. Guess that's what it takes sometimes.

Actually, I'm rather happy with how his eyes came out. So that's good. Elliwyn's... need to be looked at from afar.

But, I'm really running out of time I feel. I seriously doubt that I hit all the goals that I'd planned for December. Considering it is now February and all. *sigh* Oh well. Pictures are up, and one more step closer. Video will be up later, once it's finished.

EDIT: You know, Elliwyn looks so much worse than the blacksmith. But, I should post up a picture of the two together as she's so small and he's so large. Might make me more comfortable with things.

EDIT 2: You know, I've got the URL for the video. If you see a black square below, the video isn't finished processing yet. If it shows a good picture, you're good to go.

I can see, just from the screen cap of the video, that Elliwyn is actually very tiny. It's easy to lose perspective with cameras able to take such close up pics. So I'm sure the eyes look just fine at normal viewing distance.
