Hi, I didn\'t have any specific troop I wanted to create, just an excess of plastic arms & heads that need bodies (GW Empire mainly). The Perry stuff looked like a lot of bodies for a low price. I thought at first, from the box art, that they came with spears as an alternative for the guns but the chap in shop said they\'re just the banner poles! (I suppose I\'m too used to fantasy miniatures!).
I\'m not overly concerned about them looking out of place, I use my figures for RPGs rather than armies so consistency is less important. It wouldn\'t be particularly unusual for us to end up with late 1970\'s Ral Partha, 80\'s Grenadier, 80\'s to current Citadel plus a smattering of Harlequin, Mithril & Haribo on the table by the end of a games night. Don\'t underestimate the value of a bag of Haribo, the bag with crocodiles, frogs & fish in it is really handy for swamp encounters!
My mention of the LotR orcs was based more on them being a smaller scale than Warhammer. Of course doing head/weapon swaps would involve chopping up the orcs as you don\'t get spare parts with them, so It wouldn\'t use up my spare stuff anyway.
I\'m a novice when it comes to mixing up plastic bits from different kits so am only just getting my head around the options (glue an arm on in the position you want, that I get. Glue a different arm on from a different kit, requires changing the way I think! Too much time spent keeping things in neat order & not \"daring\" to pollute one kit with parts from another source. Wee bit OCD/precious really so I\'m breaking free!).
Also, getting to support the local indy model shop as well as GW would be nice, so I thought I\'d check out the models available there (once pointed in the right direction). Most of the soldier figures seem to be 15mm, Perry was one of the only ranges in stock that was 28mm. Although there was some nice looking scenery it seemed very expensive (pre-painted). I need to browse some online stores for figure pricing as well, I think my feeling that GW stuff is often overpriced may be based on rather out of date costs (a decade ago?).
