Jericho and the others that posted their photoshop delights, I\'m sold! I honestly wouldn\'t asssume that they had not been painted. The most I\'d be likely to suspect is that they had recieved some photoshop enhancements to cut them out and paste them onto new backgrounds. I\'\'d probably rate them in the 6 to 7 range.
As for The CMON amazon, I think she needs a bit more shading and highlighting. The yellow in particular looks a bit flat to me.

Finn- I fixed all my links yesterday, I hope all the images appear alright now. To answer your question on the \"after\" CMON contest amazon, she is all photoshop. I use this Photoshop every day at work and have become rather familiar with its abilities. This image posted took about 20 minutes to complete.
Kat- Thank you for the comment, and I agree, the yellow is flat, and this image needs more highlighting , better shading especially on the flesh, as well as some freehand work on the skirt, weapon or shield to rise above the 6-7 rating. Again, I was just trying to show what Jerico had asked about, but I\'m sure you get the picture. Again, thanks!!

Those of you here who have apologized both on these forums and via PM, nobody but those that outright attacked me have any need to be sorry about anything they said or thougt. Differing opinions is what makes Forums so fun. Its when they become flame wars or when they take both this site and anything on it too serious is when it is uncool. 
Now to the topic at hand.

- We remember that the rating here does not mean a whole heck of alot as there are too many variables at work here to make this anythign but a community to share common thoughts and show off a little talent.
- We note that we are not really voting on a paint job but on it\'s presentation here.
- If we find a mini we suspect is not owned by or actually painted by the person who posted, all we can do about it is use our vote to tell them what we think.
Last thing I really have to stress is that some of you take this site, AND its votes WAAYYY TO SERIOUSLY!

That sums it up perfectly, Lurch. I started hanging around here and posting my stuff because it was fun. If/when it ceases to be fun, I\'ll go away.
I\'ve said in some of my other posts that I really don\'t care that much about the ratings. What I do care about is getting useful criticism that helps me to become a better painter. I\'m much more interested in comments people leave on my models than the votes.
Photoshopped or not, I vote on things about the mini that I think are important: color scheme, details, composition (both in the sculpt and in the color placement), etc., and I try to leave helpful feedback when I can.
If I saw Jericho\'s green marine without knowing it was PSed, I\'d probably leave a comment about the green being too light/bold, and that there wasn\'t a whole lot of detail picked out, but that it was a fairly clean job. I\'d probably rate it around a 6-7. Now, knowing that it is PSed, I\'d say pretty much the same thing, and give it pretty much the same rating. Why? Because my criteria didn\'t change.
Besides, if it looks neat, it may inspire me to try something on my stuff. So, even if the original poster didn\'t paint, whatever they did may inspire me to paint in some new way, and that, boys and girls, is why I haunt this site.

The amazingly positive outcome from all of this is that, althought everyone accepts the fact that an entry could be faked in Photoshop, not many people appear to give a damn.
Lets be honest here, there couldhave been an outbreak of hysteria and mass beating of breasts, but it seems everyone is reasonably cool about it.
I think that says a lot about the sense and maturity of the members of this site. At the end of the day, it doesn\'t really matter. If people want to cheat, then let them live with it (*sound like teacher*) \'they are only cheating themselves\'.lol

I too am pretty surprised at how this hasn\'t turned into a witch hunt or anything yet It\'s very cool to see that people aren\'t getting paranoid over the possibilities... probably because the artists have taken them to shows like Games Day and whatnot and took home the hardware.
In any case, it\'s been fun to play around a bit and the results are quite positive, so I\'m happy
Oh, and regarding the lack of detail on the mini? That\'s the problem of doing a rendering of a model you\'ve never seen in person... can\'t exactly tell if something is a mould line, streak in the ink, or an actual feature of the sculpt

Lastly... I was thinking about Photoshop and the reason it was developed. This program was originally designed so that amateur and professional photographers could color correct and enhance their photographs. It has grown throughout the years and the uses are now as numerous as grains of sand on the beach. That in mind, personally I tend to use Photoshop to help correct my bad digital photography and make my images appear like the minis that I photograhed. I personally don\'t alter my images to get better scores since I think that is unfair and \"cheating\". (If you need proof, call up my gallery, there is nothing spectacular in there, trust me!!!\" So to sum up my thoughts, I feel there is nothing wrong with using Photoshop to help your images as long as you are using it as a tool to correct bad photography and lighting, not bad painting. I enjoy this site for its variety of images, the sharing of ideas and techniques, as well as the thoughtful and well placed feedback from others. I hope that people will continue to post their images in an honest and straight forward manner so that we all can continue to enjoy each others work without having to worry what might be real or fake.

Well, there is one, maybe two bright spots in all this: 1) We\'re all higher ranked painters than we think if you take out the photoshopped ones. And 2) the photoshopped ones (inconclusive) have proven to be inspirational even though fraudulent and that has made the honest of us endeavor to duplicate, with paint, what others have done with trickery. The results of which have certainly raised the standard of painting albeit quite by accident.
But, it is disgusting if people are doing that - I think Braveheart\'s example is damn impressive - it looks like a crap paint job but it\'s merely a glimpse of what\'s possible.
And it raises the possibility that all future contests are illegitimate - especially where prizes are concerned. I\'m not gonna go all \"Chicken Little: The sky is falling\" but it does give credence to those who have warned us in the past.
Which leads me to Confontation\'s minis. Real or no? I don\'t think that as an idea can handily be thrown out now. Has anyone seen these in the flesh? I\'ll stand down immediately if someone comes forward.
But why else are many of the top painters so secretive with their techniques?

My only thought would be how this would effect people selling the stuff on ebay. I think a seller would have to specifically request that the buyers leave comments abou the the abilities of the painter as well as the service provided. Buyers beware. Sellers, good luck.

Any E-bay seller worth their weight would know that \"word of mouth\" or \"repeat\" business is very important.
If someone were to \"enhance\" a mini and then attempt to sell it on e-bay, the feedback system would point that out right away.
Hopefully, folks aren\'t purchasing stuff with unscrupulous sellers.
I can see where someone might be able to get away with it once, but most likely not more than that.

I think this is 100% true. IMHO, it\'s better to get feedback of the sort \"Mini looks much better than photo! Great job!\" than to get something like \"Mini looks like crap in person; photo must be retouched or of different model.\"...
I\'m glad that my eBay feedback is of the first kind...

Makes it hard to get started selling. That\'s my only intention. I paint them for pleasure. The ones I am proud of now are worth very little to me in a week as I see all of my own flaws. I\'d rather get rid of them to people online. Forunately I am in the group with picture was far worse than figure. Maybe that is why they aren\'t selling well.
Back on topic, I would offer any of my bad pictures to be modified to look better. They are in the 4-6 range and I think they are the quality worth improving +1 or +2 points. Of course, I also feel this is mainly an excuse for some people to try and have fun in photoshop since most of us could care less on CMON.

1st one is lurches, 2nd is redone in photoshop by me, and third same as second but with a sharpen filter on it to bring back some details.
although i got carried away and tried to base it. given some more time that would look normal. about 40 minutes in photoshop.
