That sure makes a diference...

I have to say however, at the risk of a virtual kick in the teeth, that straightening that damn sword might have resulted in an increased score as well. :flip:

Another nice demonstration though, thanks wightzombie:bouncy:

No offense WightZ & Lurch . . . but those don\'t look appreciably better . . . still a 5 AT BEST in my book. :(
Scuplt, bendy sword, color selection, color application are all still very poor in quality.

Heheh...That\'s brilliant!

Ooooh, you are a star!:bouncy:

That\'s brilliant Ceno. I have had a little browse tonight but I will be roadtesting it fully tomorrow. That looks like a fantastic tutorial. Thanks for sharing it with us:flip::bouncy::flip:

I dunno about most of you, but all I do usually is mess with the colros so the photo doesn\'t look as yellow and make it a bit brighter. It seems no matter how much light gets on it, the mini looks dark. Then if I use the flash, it\'s a white page with little scribbes where the darkest color should be... Typical..

Well done Cenobyte!!! Thank you for the link to an awesome tutorial that uses Photoshop the right way IMHO to help represent the already wonderful painting work that our cameras often destroy through the majic of digital photography.

By the way, what\'s with the new icon Crispy??????

heres the cmon chick done in ps6 from the posted green. given a high quality primered photo would turn out stunning results. you can even add details like wood grain, tattoos and freehand art. took two hours. not sure but it could even be economical to paint them this way for companies in books pending how good u got. companies would prolly like the end mini though not a photo.

left is picture i used, mid is end result, and right is sharpened a bit

i dont know, i think its at least a 6. pending some wood grain on the inside of the shield, a tribal pattern on the inside of her cloak, a cleaner photo, technique on the metal blade, and some sort of base it could easily score a 8.

About the only way to tell if it\'s Photoshop or not...is to Zoom out 1000%+ and look at the gradient. A PS will have perfect gradient, versus a real painted figure will not be perfect.

Of course this is not perfect either...because if the user saves it with less detail...jpeg\'s lossy compression will can make a picture better than it was painted.

So we get back to Lurch\'s statement...not much we can do...unless you see the original.

I have to say, this whole thread is rather scary!

I didn\'t realise such \'good\' results could be achieved purely by digital means. I\'m sure no one \'paints\' their minis in Photoshop, but I am beginning to wonder how much an unscrupulous painter might be willing to tweak a paint job. One of the examples shown here depicts some incredibly well done jem/lense effects which look just like the kind of thing that I see all the time from GW. I\'m now wondering whether it\'s just a damn good reproduction or is that effect only achievable through manipulation? Is it beneath GW to enhance their pics?

???

Also, showing how easy it is to fake a paint job isn\'t good for those painters who truly can paint to such high standards. How many people are now looking at top quality paint jobs and thinking \'this guy\'s been playing with Photoshop\'?! Can\'t be good!

:(

Any Photoshop monkey worth his coconuts will know enough to add \"noise\" to any image so that the edited parts match the distortion of the rest of the image... thusly eliminating any \"perfect\" blends.

Asurmen.jpg

And take that image for example. It\'s a cropped, auto levels\'ed, and brightness edited photo of a WIP model I\'ve been working on... and zoomed in the blend looks near flawless anyway. Chalk it up to the very slightly blurry photo or the fact that this is proving one of my best yet, but it\'s still legit and failed your 1000% test.

The important thing is, there is a limit to what you can actually do with a printout or a computer file. You can\'t enter it in a compo, and I doubt it would be easy to sell. If I was as talented in PS as the guys who have provided us with these demos, I wouldn\'t be doctoring toy soldiers in order to earn a living:bouncy:

DING DING DING!

tracing shit out is some of the most boring work in photoshop i have ever been subject to. hell, even doing it to my own art tracing around ink lines is so boring i work on ways of making it easier. but if your a non artist in photoshop it may be a bit more interesting.

but yes it is quite scary how easy it is to gloss over gems and add depth and detailes with minimum time. it may not raise your mini by a whole point or it might, but it is very different nonetheless.

See, this is why I have photoshop, but never use it. Doctoring pics would take 3 times as long as painting the mini just like wightzombie said! I still think technology is at a point where you can tell if something is computer generated.. was anyone else convinced by Gollum in the lord of the rings 110%. Heck, no. Because you can obviously tell he\'s a computer animatio! He\'s a Jarjar Binks!

Jericho...actually your picture shows that at 1000% you don\'t get perfect blend...I see black/greys that aren\'t blended...you have to look at the whole picture...not just a couple colors...

and some of the blends are from Jpegs Lossy Compression...

Could be could be

Well, I have to say that obviously, having these tools in the hands of a skilled person is one thing, but to have people see you minis in real life is far better. Anyone even touching up a blend or somethign is missing the point of this site. It is nice to see the great artwork but when a rating system is put in place, it directly relates to cheating! Of course, edit pics all you want for your website! BTW Dan, your fella is coming along very nicely! Have you done anythign new on him of late?
