Poll: Public breast feeding.....what do you think?

I read about the November cover of W magazine that will feature Angelina Jolie in a black and white photo breast feeding one of her new babies. Here\'s the article: http://omg.yahoo.com/news/jolie-apparently-breastfeeding-on-w-magazine-cover/14027?nc .

So the question is (open that can of worms Vikey) how do you feel about public breastfeeding?

I\'m against it personally. The milk dribbles down my chin, and usually stains whatever shirt I\'m wearing. Plus people seem to get down-right glarey-starey for some reason.

Kidding aside, I think when done discretely it\'s fine. In a mall, but around where it\'s a little quiet and not a lot of foot traffic, with some sort of blanket, it\'s fine. Sitting in the middle of the mall, tits flopped out and upset that people are staring and screaming that it is a \"right\", yeah, against that.

Most women I see doing this do it out of the way and don\'t bother anyone. I don\'t see a problem with this. Purposely creating a public disturbance to make a point, on the other hand, is a bit crass.

I didn\'t even notice at first when my friend\'s wife started feeding her daughter, then I did notice and I wasn\'t one bit bothered in any way. She also fed her sone at his Christening in church and all I could think of was why would anybody be offended? After all, it\'s natural and the bond between mother and child is sacred.

It\'s natural and at the same time wonderful.
I have no problem with any woman who feeds her child via a bottle so how could I be so much of a hypocrite to say there\'s a difference.
Beside\'s isn\'t breast milk far superior to artificial or bottled milk?

Anyhow it doesn\'t make sense to me to not appreciate breasts as what they really are.

i don\'t mind if it done discreetly. it is natural and best for the baby.

i just hate it when a random mum flops her tits out next to me when i am having a coffee and doesn\'t cover up in anyway. sure it\'s natural and beautiful but so is sex and i\'m sure she\'d complain if i did it on the table next to her and her morning coffee!!

lollollol I\'m for it, a baby needs as good a start as it can get and ok its a bit embarassing, but i just look the other way, eventually;)

on that note so are toilet functions..... I am in the discreet is best camp but also know that when a baby is hungry a baby is hungry and there is no damn choice... I think there should be beter facilities available or discreetness for new parents..

hmmm time to design the breastfeeding in public poncho....

I don\'t mind at all. Of course, there are more or less considerate ways of doing it, but isn\'t that the case with everything?

My wife loiters on a wedding forum (which has a baby/childcare related section) and this topic comes up quite a lot, usually after one of the forum-goers has been abused by someone for public breastfeeding, even a few cases of people being escorted out of shopping centres by security guards for doing it.

Personally, I have to agree with most, it\'s natural and necessary and it\'s only the modern sexual stigmas which have been placed on breasts that make it an issue at all...

I don\'t think you can really compare breast feeding to going to the toilet in them boing being \'natural\' but something you should do in private, but I guess it is a matter of social courtesy to take into account the sensibilities of those around you (whether you agree with them or not) and do it in as discreet a way as possible... but do it none the less.

I agree with it compleatly. I know for a fact i was breastfed and i didnt turn out retarded. I think if somebody gives a mother grief for this they need to grow up.

Having had the opportunity to become more acquainted with the process in the last three months I don\'t have a problem with it, though think being discreet is just being polite. Angelina breast feeding for a magazine is very crass - I\'ve always objected to celebrities forcing their views down everyone elses throats. Neeless to say how much is she being paid to exploit her baby in this way?

she isn\'t, they are pictures that Brad took at various times
who, how, or why they ended up with the mag, that I don\'t know
maybe the editor thought they were just nice pics of the Pitt/Jolie clan in nice family settings

I have no problem with it. I don¡¯t understand how you can find something sexual about it. As a matter of fact, my wife and I were having lunch today and a woman breast fed her kid at the next table. I was surprised she did it since she was Korean and they usually try to keep an air of reserve.
No, I didn¡¯t sit and stare either. lol
