I\'m wondering about the wife..... is she that trusting.... strange kids on my doorstep that are my grandkids, I would want a DNA check first to make sure.

When the news of this broke last night, it made my skin crawl.

Words can\'t describe the frustration at wanting to break certain laws (legal and moral) on people like this. Not to shrug shoulders at it but more of a \"what can you do now?/At least they\'ve caught him and stopped it.\"
There\'s so much of this happening (or being reported on, anyway) that, arghhhh, makes one wonder what\'s wrong with the world today. Sadly, there really can be no justice served that will help his daughter and her children.

I read that last night on the BBC news, its truly disturbing some the things that people do. This guy deserves what\'s coming his way.

What really gets me is wondering what the imprisoned daughter told the children that were growing up with her. As a parent, how do you explain why they can\'t go outside? Who is this bad man who comes to do bad things to Mommy? Why don\'t we just bash his skull in?
I\'m sorry, but the only thoughts that come to me as a fitting punishment violate several thousand sets of moral codes and legal definitions. And I\'m genuinely shocked at several of my thoughts. Yet all of it will never make things better.
My only publishable thought was for him to be buried alive with a tiny drip of the most foul tasting, yet barely nutritious, liquid until he perishes.

Sorry, but were the police that naive to beleive a letter left with her parents? Were there no real investigations back in 1984? Is the wife realy that dumb?
Yes the man is a monster, no question about that but in reality I blame society for not noticing anything out of the ordinary. Society as a whole is to quick to turn a blind eye or ignore things that should otherwise be questioned.
And sorry but the police should have investigated her dissaperance back in 1984 more than they seem to have NOT done. Not knowing the full facts its hard to say but with the info at hand it looks like the police just accepted it and beleived she joined a sect. Pathetic.
How would the children know what is right or what is wrong? As a child you learn from your surroundings and surrounding people, these children probably though everything was normal to some degree. They were also very week with some of then never seeing sun light. They were fed and had cloaths and learnt to speak from their mother but thats about it. If you do not know what is wrong how do you act against it?

Creepy thinking what is happening amongst us. For 24 years nobody knew.....or said anything. How much is going on around where we live and we are simply not aware of.

Yup pretty foul.. the news on this broke yesterday. There is a special place in hell for this man.
What scares me more is when they do the DNA testing of all these children and women in Texas at the Mormon Compound and they see what sort of genetic cesspool thats going to be..

I think its because things like this pop up all to frequent now for us to be really shocked..cause we know tomorrow or next week something else will be worse.

I don\'t wish to take away from the horrors of this report but I do have a few concerns.
I can see the neighbors not knowing what was happening. I can even see the wife/mother not realizing what was going on. I can understand why the police had come to the conclusion that they did in 1984. I can understand how the children would not try to \'overthrow\' the monster because they never knew different. I can even (sadly) understand the depravity of the act.
What I don\'t understand is how the daughter never managed to escape in 25 years unless she was chained to something (which the article makes no mention of). I also don\'t understand how she is as well adjusted as the article makes her seem, one would think she would be near feral from the decades of abuse and isolation.
Again, I don\'t wish to take away from the atrocity and I\'m not trying to say it did not really happen, just a few things about the situation that just don\'t seem to fit in my view.

This isnt the worst thing Ive ever seen, researching the holocaust pretty much put paid to anything like that, you look at pictures of twins sewn together and then find anything else disturbing, especially if one of them dies before the other....
But this guy is something else.
Unfortunatly, I dont think its a crime that is punishable by death, I dont know if Austria has the death penalty any more, and going by how old she is, he must be near his 70s, what they gonna do, put him away for 10, 15 years before he dies?
So I think we kinda have to let his side of the story go, hes confessed to it all, so hes going down regardless, its just the poor mother and kids that have to be looked after now.
I would like to see some kind of legal action against the police if that is the case, depending on how bad they messed up, I didnt catch the bit about her apparently joining a cult, but she does need to be looked after in some way.
