Voila. The finished product:

Given unlimited time and fewer minis that I also want to paint, there are a number of things I would change or improve. I'd have brighter and better blended highlights on the ork, I would have been a bit sharper with the arm's edge highlighting, I would have changed some colors around, based it a bit differently...

All in all though, I'm quite happy and there has to be a point where you step away (plus, it was supposed to be a christmas present and it's a bit past that).

I've learned quite a bit from this and will hopefully be able to apply it to future models. C&C on the model as a whole is welcome, but I won't be changing anything at this point.

Looking good! I know you're not going to change anything, but! It's probably on your to do list already, but since you said it's finished I'd like to point it out anyway:) When I first looked at it it didn't feel finished, something was lacking. And now I know why, the sand at the bottom of the base isn't painted, is it? Like I said, probably on your to do list but if it isn't, it's a quick fix and it will add to the finish of the mini:)

** Edit **
Just noticed the terrain you used in that game, priceless! :D

Got a little bit done this weekend. Slapped some paint on my thunderwolves and grey hunters, but not enough to show a full unit yet. Realized I suck hard at painting human faces.

Also got my Juggernaut of Khorne (possibly the coolest model in GW's range) butchered and started on his Canis Helix treatments. Check out Chrome's thread for those pictures. Any amount of success I am having with that I owe to him, as I referenced his WIP pics constantly while sculpting.

I also finished modelling my Iron Priest (who will be riding the *awesome* Fenris Wolf model, from the Heroclix "Hammer of Thor" set). Painting is up next. He may not look it, but he was pretty tough. The regular thunderhammer arm is bent 90 degrees at the elbow and very close in to the body. OK for a ground-pounder, but doesn't really look that great for a rider. So I took the "outstretched sword arm" from a marine captain, lopped off the sword and attached in the thunderhammer. Of course, now the power cable was all wonky, and that required cutting and bending and more cutting and filling and some superglue and prayer. all in all, it looks pretty good though. His Tech Priest chest symbol is actually a watch cog with the cut off front of a skull pasted on it. He had another cog on his knee, but it fell off and the carpet ate it. One shoulderpad is the old Wolf Skull (the one with the round skull, not the new flat one. one of the few instances where the old sprue is better than the new one). They other is the Adeptus Mechanicus shoulderpad from the vehicle upgrade sprue. I know some people don't like the wolf helm, but I didn't have any MKIII heads lying around, and it seemed to fit the character. He'll be the only one in the army with it, so I think it works to set him apart.

Not a great picture, I know, but he won't stay on his mount and I haven't gotten around to pinning him yet.

Anyway, the inspiration:
