[Rackham] We knew it was coming, but this is a sad sight (site)

The new Rackham Store is up and running. Nice looking site but there are no Confrontation minis...we knew it was coming, but is sad nonetheless and the end of an era of mass-produced \"boutique quality\" minis.

I knew they wouldn\'t be selling metals anymore, but I was at least hoping they\'d have the pictures up as a reference. I guess I\'ll have to stick to Zinndex.de.

Now we\'re just waiting to find out who bought the rest of the metals and will be selling them; Miniature Market had a bunch, but I don\'t think the big \"motherload\" that was mentioned on the Confrontation boards.

I\'m afraid I rather gave up on R about a year ago. Is it just me, or does anyone else think that a 50% off sale on waves 1-5 of the PPP models isn\'t a great indicator of success?

Not particularly. Rackham may be attempting a strategic move by selling their initial waves of PPP cheaply, or at break-even only costings, then follow it up within a few years with a price hike.

Can\'t comment for sure on their business strategy, but at the discounts, it seems akin to a new restaurant offering discounts meals on opening day.

Does anyone know if this ragnarok rulebook HERE is the same as the one in the old version of Ragnarok that had the Drac Mac Syro mini in it?

I\'m tempted to get some stuff and make up some armies for play.

Shame... I liked the look of a lot of their stuff... I\'m glad I got a few of the good ones like the crow and the zombie in two halves.

To me it almost seems like business suicide, since I was always under the impression that their minis were actually more popular than the game itself. So gohkm you may be right.

I was fortunate enough to bring back half a suitcase of their stuff from Switzerland a few years back so that should last me at least awhile.

i have enough rackham minis to last me the rest of my life, including all the coolest mail-order-only and limited minis, so i\'m not worried...

it is sad though...
the guys at rackham were some cool dudes...
they were always fun at cons, and had such a unique style...

now i\'ll just switch to collecting smart max, as the minis du jour, since helldorado is about to die as well...

cheers

I too have enough Confrontation minis to last a lifetime (I estimate something like 150 blisters and a couple dozen boxes, all purchased since the New Year), but coming late to the came I\'ve always known them as no longer being manufactured; I would have loved the idea of new stuff coming out every month or so.

Looking around at the rest of the miniature marketplace I don\'t see a lot that excites me. I\'ll probably get some stuff from Enigma, Andrea, and maybe random miniatures from other companies, but nothing is even close to Rackham (for me).

Gutted that the old resins are gone already. I really liked that Ophidian Apostate.

Makes me sick to see a great company like this sell out. SICK !

Saying that I will try my damdest to support the new Legends line if it is any good.

Nope that\'s the sh%&$y new game. You need a fair few units to play as certain units are limited to a minimum number of models. I\'m Doubtful that many people will have the right number of units required to field an AOR army with metals.

That Apostate wasn\'t resin mate, I have it. Pure 100% metal :)
As for the 50% off, it has pissed retailers off all over the glob, who stupidly in my opinion, bought the new piss poor plastic range, as they are going to be saddled with ridiculous amounts of these waves, as they still have to try and make some sort of money back on them. If they discount their current stock down by 50% then they will be making losses.

Rackham has screwed the customer base, Now they are doing it to the retailers.

You wondered what their business strategy was, well it would appear a suicidal one. All I can say is get your resin minis while you can, as I have a feeling R wont be around much longer.

Cant see many people carrying on taking their products!

Believe me, a lot of us have tried to help them on their official forums, but they just wont listen. Jean Bey has got to be one of the most arrogant people to deal with, it\'s his ball, and if you don\'t like it, find something else, well a lot of people have..Will he not learn!?

The new smart Max stuff is the new R IMO and Cedric one of the owners used to work at Rackham, so hopefully he has learnt by their huge mistake.

Well would you carry their minis if you were a store? I would run away from them like the plague.

As for jean bey tecnically its not his ball anymore is it? I mean, is he not just the art director now as a consequence of his past \" suicide\"? If that didnt teach him a lesson I doubt that we, the called and booted \"profets of doom\" cant do much about it.

But this is all secondary to me, I\'m just gutted to see such good range of minis canned.

I don\'t know about other countries but I can get Rackham models in the Rackham Legends series at a shop called WarPuppy in Australia. These are metal models, but they are very slow to add anything so I hope the supply continues.

But seeing the site has got me worried that they will never be able to add anything else to the range. I\'d like to be able to paint at least one Rackham model.

Which has got me thinking what are the plastic models like, have they got the same level of detail that the metal models have?

WarPuppy really doesn\'t have a lot of stock, do they?

I don\'t know about the Confrontation plastics, but I just got some AT-43 plastics - and the detail is pretty good. There was some discussion on en-forum.confrontation.fr sometime ago about re-painting plastics, that it as quite easy to do so, so this will be my experiment.

Wash your mouth out for even asking that question, the PPP, or piss poor plastic as my locals call them, as terrible, compared to the metals, but there are people out there that try and say otherwise, they are called.......Fan boys lol

@Kara Jane and gohkm : Orb tried it out :

http://www.coolminiornot.com/158331

And here\'s my take on it :

http://www.coolminiornot.com/192255

Prepping is a bit long (cleaning and working with that soft plastic), but it\'s doable. Once cleaned, the details are a bit less crisp than metal versions, but it\'s still paintable.

@atacam : having a bad day are we :p?
