anti-smokers. The people that have determined where I can smoke! I\'m outside Damn it! Don\'t turn your nose up at me like your some sort of higher being! You already have taken away the owners \"right\" to let people smoke or Not in his/hers bar, in a attempt to \'protect\' the people that work/frequent the establishment from second hand smoke. Come on! They are adults that know the hazards of being in that environment. And I think that the owner would go smoke free if he thought that it would bring in more money.
No I don\'t advocate for smoking in restaurants and with children in the enclosed areas.

Local City Council members that think that biggest problem that we face as a major city is the amount of light that the city puts out at night. No, not the amount of power that it takes to power the lights, but the amount of VISIBLE light generated. Can\'t see the stars from her State protected island, that\'s next to the middle of downtown. Oh and don\'t forget her objection to the new football field that the school (which has been on this island for about 110 years longer then she) on the grounds that it would increase traffic near her home....

Ah, um, were did that all come from? Boy I must be carrying around a lot.

In one of our illustrious Northeastern states (I think it was Mass) they just passed a law that requires parents to secure children in a car seat up until their eighth birthday!

Thus begins another of my rants: I am so friggin\' fed up with the government making such asinine laws that affect things like the raising of my kids. Not that this law is here in Texas yet but it will be because our attention-whoring political system won\'t be able to resist proving that they are the candidate to vote for because \"they love the children.\" :evil:

The law is perfectly sensible as it is on the books. Eight years old??!! Government needs to govern, not babysit. I am so over these self-rightous idiots and their ceaseless intrusion into our personal lives.

@ mud duck - I agree that smoking or non should be a decision of the individual retauranteer or business owner. For the same reasons I ranted above. That said, I gotta say, I loathe the smell of cigarette smoke. I\'ll get clients in at the office who have just gotten out of the car smoking and even though they put it out before they come in they still reak of it so badly that I end up with a headache for the remainder of the day.

And don\'t even get me started on cyclists. In my area they ride 5-6 abreast in \'flocks\' of maybe 50 down major highways and then have the audacity to get upset when drivers are perturbed about it.

This weekend a 19 year old punk apparently did not realize that sucker punching me in the back of the head would bring about dire consequences. The slow dawning look of comprehension in his eyes when he realized that he had made a \"BIG MISTAKE\" as my hand was around his throat was a bit amusing.

Edit: For the record, I hate fighting, I absolutely abhor it. However, I can fight, and will fight if the situation calls for it.

Bah, they got it easy... They recently passed a law here requiring you to keep your kids in a car seat till they are nine! By nine I knew how to drive for Christ\'s sake.

Not that this one gets much sympathy but as of April 1st you can\'t smoke in a car in this province if there is anyone under the age of 19 in it. It\'s my damn car who the hell are they to tell me what I can or can\'t do in it...

Sounding to me like a fascist dictatorship isn\'t to far away now. They always start with gun control and removing freedoms.

Mattrock\\MPJ, let me get this right, your complaining because there is a law that requires you to secure infants in a car right?

Currently the law says that your kid needs to be in a car seat until he/she is about 50lbs and nearly four feet tall. That\'d put them at about 5-6 years old for most kids. That\'s reasonable and neither of us is debating that.

...but EIGHT or NINE YEARS OLD is NOT an infant. And it\'s frankly ridiculous. Most of us were sitting on our parents\' laps learning to steer the car by that age and while you may debate the safety of that, surely you couldn\'t look at me with a straight face and tell me that I\'m a bad dad for not requiring my NINE YEAR OLD to be in a car seat. Alot of 9 year olds are taller than my wife. Should she be in a car seat? I am NOT saying that I want my kids roaming free in the back seat, but since when is a seat belt inadequate to secure a 9 year old?

I\'d advise you to read the posts you quote before you vent your outrage at the poster.

My latest rant concerns Vallejo paints! I bought a tube of black \'matt\' recently.....but its NOT bloody matt!!! It dries shiny! And i dont mean just slightly shiny, its like a satin/eggshell finish! WTF???
Ive not had any probs with these paints before, in fact i was even considering binning all my GW stuff because im really happy with the coverage/opacity of my other Vallejo colours!

I was talking with my aunt about our child seat laws and they actually have a hieght requirement here not sure exactly but it was 4 foot something. lol my cousin her middle daughter is a tiny tiny lil thing we joke that she\'ll still be in a carseat when she turns 16 and starts driving. I agree tho it\'s one thing to make sure a child is safe it\'s another thing to dictate that a kid has to be in a carseat for ten years.

A special car seat for nine year olds is a little odd to me. I think a better approach would be making an effort at educating parents about how improper placement of the shoulder and lap belts can be damaging, and vivid explanations of how not securing your child can be deadly for the child and everybody else in the car. My husband used to be a cop, and has seen some pretty nasty accidents due to people not buckling themselves or their children up. I agree that it is a big brother law, but sometimes it\'s necessary to protect certain parts of the general public from their own ignorance. On a side note, most states in the US place not wearing seatbelts as a secondary offence, so an officer can\'t pull you over because he sees you aren\'t wearing a seatbelt. That only applies to adults, however. If he sees children jumping around in the back seat, he can pull them over without any other reason.

As far as smoking in your own vehicle goes, there is a shift in the thinking process about second hand smoke. The American Lung Association has cited some California EPA reports that list secondhand smoke to be nearly as dangerous as the genuine article. Many folks have reached the conclusion that if you smoke in your home or car with children present, you are subjecting them to a form of child abuse. Also, it has been proven that with very small children, before their lungs are fully developed, second hand smoke can prevent their lungs from reaching their full potential.

FYI, I quit smoking four months ago. I had been a smoker for almost 15 years. My relationship with cigarettes is kind of a love/hate thing. I would love to have a smoke right now because of that little three minutes of euphoria. On the other hand, I hate the smell, I hate the taste, I hate the cigarette butts, I hate what it does to my breath, teeth, skin, and lungs.

Having to come to work on a Sunday with a stinking hangover, then I turn on radio one to hear the verbal abuse that is Dick & Dom.

Who in the world thought that it would be a good idea to give these stupid idiots a radio show its bad enough that I may accidently see them on TV while flicking through channels.
