Donga Blunders onto a thread......

Chin up Eric!

All I\'ll say is (without going into what a shit year it has been, REALLY SHIT!!!!).

Painting miniatures isn\'t the issue, or what breaks a relationship up. It can often be used as a \'scape-goat\' or an excuse, but it is rarely the reason. I have never come across a woman or been in a relationship that has fallen apart because I paint \'silly little men\'. I found that I have painted when I should have being paying attention to the woman I love. I found myself using painting miniatures or even whole armies as a means of keeping busy, away from the pressures of daily life and the crap involvolved. Or even taking responsibility for how my life has changed.

As I\'m sure most of the Ladies on this forum will contest, Men are very good at avoiding responsibility and hiding from it. Painting Minis CAN be used as such a thing. Im not saying that is what you have done Eric, but I\'m speaking from my experience and its one of the many things that I am guilty of.

All I can say is, You know if the relationship was a good one or one that was not meant to last. painting miniatures is just \'window dressing\' to the fundamental issues.

Was it good or not?

Andy (the Marriage guidance councilor, who will probably not be married this time next year)

ps. Only just started painting after 5 month separation from painting (& my wife :()

Well, I was hesitant in replying to this thread, since so many people already gave you such great advice and support.
It\'s also one of those things that used to really intrigue me, the support (or lack of it) to our hobby from our significant others

I probably went through the exact same thing as you just over a month.
My girlfriend never payed too much attention to my hobby, and I was fine with that. I would also only paint during weekdays, at night, since we didn\'t live together and I reserved the weekends to be with her.
But whenever I tried to share just a little bit, something like showing her my latest paintjob, she would say somethig like \"get that way from me, it\'s a childish thing to do, when you could be practicing some sport, like surf or riding a bike\".
Things got worse when she realized that it really p*ssed me of whenever we were with someone and she thought that it was a good idea to humiliate me in front of them, saying that I enjoy doing kid\'s stuff.
This was only one reason among many, and she is a great woman, but we decided that we were very incompatible, and should be better on our own.

I usually say to myself, \"if I\'m not happy, it\'s probably not worth it\". ;)

And yes, I have now much more time to paint, which is a good thing :)

I don\'t smoke any more Pete! Saying that, I admit to the occasional recreational smoke...though only because the \'other\' housemate of the three is an occasional dabbler in the fine art of rolling. And occasional is definitely the word :). That said, a pint is a gift from the gods.

And Ya verily, he looked upon the pint and saw that it was good.
When he had finished feasting on ye pint he said \" by golly could I do with a \'smoke\'!\"

The best advice I could give anyone is \"enjoy what you got, cos\' shit happens.\"

Drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die!

EDIT; I cant spell!!

So we\'re talking psychology?

Well, yes. What I think might be the case is women being simply jealous of the hobby. I.e., accusing the hobby of stealing too much of their significant others\' time they could have spent wih them instead of painting \"silly little men.\"

Lots of places, but probably taken from the bible, although I think it was originally \"Eat and drink, for tomorrow we die\", so no being merry :D

Correct, Rab!

\"let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die.\"
1 Corinthians 15:32 - King James version

NO. I\'m not some Bible scholar or something. What I am is bored and Googled it. Wonderful thing that Google. I probably would have said Shakespeare, but what do I know.
Well, anyways, as I said, I\'m bored. Wish they\'d approve some new minis to vote on.

EricJ it\'s all about tolerance!

My wife used to tolerate my hobby, now she takes a high level of interest in CMON and even sits and views when I\'m doing something else.
We still share some things together, Movies, good food, good books and good wine. We have similar tastes in TV programs and mostly like and dislike the same things.
