Rant! Women vs. My minis

Yes, its weird how people\'s avatars affect how you think of them. Gypsy\'s in particular threw many people off. lol

I\'ve found that most of my GFs reactions to my painting have been \"Thats nice dear\", but they are glad I\'m not out drinking, gambling or whatever. My first GF had a go at painting and was actually pretty darn good, but never really got into it.

I know how you feel, EricJ!

I thought you were an actual platypus/pokemon/etc...lol

But I REALLY am a gorgeous, 21-yr old redhead with...okay, can\'t do it!

I\'m a grown man the same age as Supervike with the same interests: painting minis, Lindsey Lohan, making fun of Finn (where ARE you by the way?), and posing as a young girl on internet chatrooms.

Was that last one out loud?:innocent:

I had to buy my wife a tablesaw just to get her kickstarted onto her hobby so I could try to get back to mine.

Hmmm, I think I may have to change my avatar! I\'ve been meaning to find something permanent, but nothing stood out, I think perhaps I\'ll do a head shot of the maiden. Then people well think of me as an undead, water-drenched ghost-woman. :D

 sound like it\'s time to sit down and have a chat with your lady, let her know she hurts your feelings about something that is important to you............and as for all the \"over the hill\" jokes......:p:moon::p ;)

Ahem.....

Just for the record - Avicenna stays at his own free will :D I haven\'t used my molegrips or snipers rifle to coerce him into staying. I just dangle the premise of a very cool \'den\' in which we can do our painting.... it works just as well but is less messy ;)

I don\'t think it matters whether you share hobbies or not. What does matter is that you respect each others hobbies full stop. It\'s no good starting a relationship thinking \"cool, nice minis but I\'ll soon have him/her doing something else more interesting\" Changing someone, or trying to change yourself for someone doesn\'t work (I know from experience).

Having a b/f who is creative and imaginative is cool and much better than having him out every evening with his mates drinking etc. Not that it\'s a bad thing (in case Avicenna is listening!), just a case of everything in moderation ;)

So....either come to an agreement that you have x amount of time with your minis and an equal amount of time with her, or use the KatieG method of comment!!

reverting back to the beggining of this... my last gf was the exact same (man that was a mistake) shed always try and convince me it was a waist of time and money then ask me why i did this.. every time i would tell her and even used her soccer as an example.. wow she\'s dumb.. but thats something else lol

I am liking the whole patented \'katie G eff off\' method myself... Be yourself - that is the most important thing.

Be true to yourself and other people will have to accept you for that.

I am lucky enough to have found someone wonderful who paints!

Oh. now that\'d just be showing off :D

I really hope Fizl isn\'t \"over the hill\" at 32, because that would mean that at 30, this could be about as good as it gets :(

Called Eric....not sure about that!

Shaz

Didn\'t I mention that? I named my dark maiden Eric, she\'s Eric the dark maiden, ghostly seductress of the sea. :D

Eric the dark maiden with only half a ship, bit like Eric the half bee, who must half not bee.

Um... yes, random Monty Python moment...

My wife really isn\'t into the whole games schtick either. She has played the odd d&d session and even painted one or two figs- she likes board games of all kinds. Happily married coming up on 15yrs now. There is sort of a groan when I paint miniatures instead of my terrain, for the change in money value of the two- the latter quit being nerdy in any way or form when it started bringing in the cash once in a while.lol vs. spending coin on the latest gtreatest new lead(guilty).
\'Tis human nature to go back and forth over spending time with eachother vs need for our own interests. No matter what it is I think. Its how you resolve them is what is important.
Somebody said moderation is the answer- sounds smart to me.
I think we\'ve nearly all encountered something similar in concept to GF vs. (fill in blank for hobby/pastime/etc)

Um, I don\'t know how that comes across over there..., but here in Cali I gotta say that statement is stuffed full of innuendo...:eek::eek::p

but anyone want to photoshop me up half a bee, I could use that as my avatar :) It\'s either that or Eric the dark maiden...

Glad to see you are back in good spirits Eric, sorry to hear that everything with to the shitter with the lady though.

Me and my wife can\'t possibly be more different and we\'ve commented before that we can understand how the hell we got together in the first place (well, I was attracted to her breasts but you can\'t really say that with a straight face now can you ....)

Anyhow, if she\'s going to nag and get up your arse every time you decide to do something that makes you feel good and is quite creative (believe me, you\'ll be getting offers of paint for lead or commision work soon) then she is likely not the woman for you.

My wife and I had to find out middle ground, my problem is that when I find something I like I usually open up full throttle and get into it at high speed and that eats up time. Now, after more than one conversation and a bit of yellin\' at times, I\'ve learned to do it in moderation and I\'ve managed to snag the kids into it as well (when all three kids are going on about painting a miniature its hard for her to say no. :D ) Thankfully we\'ve gotten to the point now where we look after each other and then to our hobbies.

Sounds like yours wants something else .. if she\'s not going to support you, well you\'re likely better off without her.

i must have been lucky then

my wife tolerates my painting and gaming, but at least she\'s understanding enough to let me take a vacation [from everything - work and chores] in preparation for every games day.
i wonder if that will change this year, now that we got married? ???
