Amazing Magnets

K&J Magnetics

Lee Valley also has a small selection if there\'s one in your town you can avoid shipping perhaps

I\'ve ordered from K&J, I\'d recomend them, you get sampler bits when you order too which is nice. I hear good reviews and similar stories of sample packages from Amazing Magnets though. A google search will yield a few more options I\'m sure. Anyway, those links should answer a few questions. Usually they\'re used in mini\'s to switch weapon options. Sometimes they\'re used to hold a part you simply want to be able to turn for whatever reason, for example on a Dreadnaught waist. They\'re great for tanks and large expensive models that you might not always use the same gear for. Like on crisis suits and terminators. I think there\'s something in the article section isnt there? Basic idea is you drill a hole in the weapon or the weapon arm, drill a hole in the tank or body or what have you. Stick a magnet in each hole making sure the poles are alligned so the magnets will stick to each other when you put the arm on the body. Done in time for dinner.

I got ahold of an old, thrashed, harddrive the other day and took it apart. There are some of the strongest magnets I have EVER seen in my life in there. They are located on the \'other\' end of the read/write head and are shaped like kidney beans. So strong it\'s hard to get them off stuff.

I got some at my local hobby store. They look like little disks and they are used for dissasembling miniatures with out having it to be permanant.

I found some at Wal-Marx of all places. Next to the vinyl magnets that don\'t hold so good, but are ok for putting your little kids art on the fridge. The RE ones are stout. hard to pull them apart.

Imroved hold

If the magnets aren\'t holding as well as you would like, go to your local harware store and pick up some 16 ga steel sheet. Bring one of your magnets along just to make sure it\'s magetic steel. If it is, take it home and cut a little piece out and put it between the two mangets you are using. This should increase the field by about an order of magnitude or two.
