REALLY TIRED of Pro\'s...

Sorry for the double post.. (ok, not really :) )

As to the term \"pro-painted\", to those ones who think that selling a mini for a couple of dollars makes them a professional are full of s**t. Selling crap on eBay does NOT make you a professional. A professional practices a PROFESSION which is something you do that earns you enough money to pay your bills. If it\'s just something you do to make a couple of dollars, it\'s a hobby, and you are a hobbyist.

From Webster\'s New World dictionary:
professional: earning one\'s living from an activity, such as a sport, not normally thought of as an occupation. (3rd definition).

I highly doubt most of these so-called pro\'s on eBay make their living off of the minis they sell.

I just write \"painted\"

The term \'pro\' has always made me chuckle anyway, it makes me think of \'prostitute\' before \'professional\'.

It\'s now just a marketing term, and people use it not because of what it means in the dictionary, but because of the implication carried with it. In other words, the word defines the painter, but implies something about the mini. So can be legitimately used by the letter of the definition to describe the painter, while then it is not fair fault if the reader is then mislead by the implications, since that was the readers preconceptions.

So yes, it\'s a great marketing word, where you don\'t have to actually say more than is true, in order to make the reader believe more than is true.

Yay marketing :)

I, on the other hand, am NOT a pro-painter, and I think I\'m ok with that :)

Pro.

Hi Zordana,

Might I just say that you are seriously corrupting my innocent mind.

First it was pubic/public and now it\'s prostitute/professional.

I\'ll never see these words the same way again.

I like it! :D

Pro Schmoe..

Apologies for the multiple post factor.

I\'d just like to add my bent nickel. First of all, the title \'pro\' doesn\'t bother me in the slightest. Live and let live. If some d00d wants to put \'pro\' painted mini on his e-bay ad more power to her/him.

Would \'aspiring pro\' painted mini be a more suitable title??? \'Wanna be pro\' painted GW Space Marine 4 sale.

Does it really matter?

I can\'t beleve you\'re serious Tony. This \'pro\' thing really upsets you.

Funny.

Erm...i must of missed out on all the erm..action. Its a shame that some dirty laundry as been hung up in public...shame. Everyones right. Theres really no need.

So erm...where were we..oh yeah the pro thing.

In order to avoid problems in the future I will begin using the following blurb in E-bay listings:

\" A Not quite as pro-painted as * Studio\'s miniatures; but nevertheless still quite good, particularly for those-who-want-to-play-more-than-paint-but-like-nice-looking minis-on-the-table** mini\"

* name removed due to cease and desist order.
** This in no way implies that these individuals have substandard painting abilities and we do not wish to shatter their self-esteem by implying that there are degrees of skill in any endeavor in this cruel, cruel world.

I think I\'ll sell mine under
\"Starving-wannabe-artist-desperately-wants-your-money-painted-miniature\"

Yeah.
Or maybe just \'Painted Miniature\' if I ever list another of my pieces.

I just use the term \"painted\" in my e-bay search. Then I get to see the cool stuff and have a giggle at the \"pro\" stuff.
I think if anyone actually bought this stuff for anything other than the stripping pot they must have had their heads up their arses when they clicked on the bid button.

Personally, when I\'m searching Ebay, I do my searches by manufacturer, not by any partial words. I still get to see all the wonderful paint jobs, but generally, I\'m looking for lots, so don\'t really spend much time snickering at the so-called pro jobs. The good ones, I stop to admire.

Someone managed it the other week...or at least kind of managed it. The thread about the fella who\'s piece went for over a $100 or whatever it was, a terminator or something. That was not turd, but it certainly wasn\'t a gem. It was sold for far more than the market value I reckon lol

Flogging a dead horse, and after going to the link, it seems the feelings are pretty much the same in that forum also.
And another thing...
It shows some gall to come here, tell someone else that they need to change their name and then pimp your \"company\".
By your lack of professionalism, your whining, obnoxious behavior, you have just made your name memorable... as a \"company\" to avoid doing business with.

Helpful advice:

Let it go. You\'ve had a thread shut down, several posts deleted. All you\'re doing is dragging your own reputation down with this.
