Reaper Master or Vallejo Model

First let me say I know there are a zillion posts on paint selection, but I have noticed after reading many of them that there is very little info on the Reaper Master paints and that is the primary thrust for info of this thread.

I\'ve decided to simplify my life and that means new paints (ok, I\'m strange). I think I\'ve decided on Vallejo Game Color primarily to replace my GW paints (which are getting quite worn out) because it seems many of you prefer the Vallejo and the colors match so well, and I\'ve found an online seller that I\'m getting them from for less than $2us a bottle when purchased in bulk.

Now, I firmly believe a man (or woman as the case may be) needs more than one set of paint and I\'ve been vavering back and forth between Reaper Master and Vallejo Model. It looks like I can get both for about the same price (I can buy Reaper wholesale and the above online guy will do good prices on Model as well). I\'ve read lots of posts on the Vallejo but have very little info in these boards on the Reaper Master which I think I\'m leaning towards but I don\'t want to spend hundreds of dollars and be disappointed. Both lines seem quite similar, squeeze bottles, matte(r) colors, large selection of colors. Noone locally carries either so its a bit rough for me to do a comparison myself.

The sharing of any experience with Reaper Master and/or Vallejo Model would be appreaciated, with a lean towards Reaper Master because there is much less info in the boards out there (I\'m thinking that it might be only/mainly because many of the board posters are from the UK that the lean is heavily slanted towards Vallejo).

I love my RMS paints. They have some of the strongest binder of any of the paints I have used. This is based on cleaning my ceramic tile pallet after the paint has dried.

They do NOT match GW\'s colors like VGC does. But they do come in triads. A shadow color, a midtone and a hi-lite in each triade. Some of the triads do not have enough difference for the amount of contrast that is required here.

The basic fleshtones come in 3 triads, but can be used across the whole nine paints.

The line also includes pure pigments (clear brights) and inks (liners) and some really nice metals.

I just bought a few Reaper paints, and have to say I agree with airhead. They are very good paints!

I love the triad system. You can always tweak that down or up, but it simplifies much. Its a system Foundry has used for years.

I don\'t know all the whosits and whatsits of paint and its properties, but I know it thinned well (without breaking apart like some of my Vallejo\'s do) it covered well, and it dried evenly as well.

I will be investing in more of these.

I use the Reaper MSPs for the most part. The triad system works very well for me, and the line has a wide range.

The dropper bottles don\'t seem to require as much shaking as Vallejos to mix and do come with an agitator (a little pewter skull).

The paints are very smooth and can be used out of the bottle, though they benefit from some dilution.

The liners are wonderful, but they aren\'t inks.

I do have the occasional problem with goopy paint (after much shaking), but Reaper has always sent a free replacement after I sent an email (with picture to show that I have the paints).

can anyone tell me a good supplier for reaper in he UK??????
I\'m dying to try them out.
Recently switched to VMC and I am really enjoying them and experimenting with them.
Find that although a lot of their colours look the ame they do in fact act quite differently when highlighted.
I like the idea of the Triade system makes it easier for someone with restraints on time and fns to experiment.

If you were looking for a lot of Reaper Master I could get them for you at a good price (I\'m set up as a Reaper Reseller), but I\'m not completely set up yet and have no paint stock atm (just minis on my eBay store, and I still have about 200 to add there /sigh), though I am planning on stocking them before the year is out.

I\'m moving to Reaper Master Series, myself.

For the best information, go straight to the source: the Reaper forums -- http://www.reapermini.com/forums -- and the >>Painting Tips & Advice section<< specifically.

Anne Foerster -- who, in addition to being an amazing painter herself, is the one who actually designs and mixes the RMS paints -- posts in the Painting section frequently (as Vaitella) and has always been happy to answer any question about the RMS paints. I\'d say to start with >>this thread<< for what might already be more info about RMS than you could want. If not, you can then search the forum and get the answer to just about any other question about RMS you could possibly have, straight from the person who actually makes them.
