Reboot 2013

Too cool! I'd love to but I've got other stuff - besides at San Diego Comic Con, Richard Hatch was talking about doing an indie reboot of Battlestar Gallactica.

I liked the BG new series mainly because I thought it was well written and they really did a lot with character and story arc. But I didn't like the swap ups of the old characters - I thought they should have gone with a complete reboot. But it will be interesting to see if anything comes of it.

That would be cool.

I loved the new galactica series.

But a complete reboot would be interesting, and i am sure it could be funded by all the fans.

Hello, my equine princess.

If there is some kind of group paint for medium to large figs,
I may jump in with a monster or bust of some kind.

Did I miss something? Or did the conversation jump from bsg to lizardmen paint along. Both cool just saw no transition lol.

hehe! That's what I was talking about with Stewie. I definitely want to get something going. Since I got some wolfies in the mail - and go figure this - the Warmachine stuff I have is looks really similar. lol! I don't even know where my gnarlhorn is. I'm almost afraid to dig through that table - something might jump out and pull me back into that damn void that I seem to disappear into so often.

I would be on board with that too. I have a lizardmen carnosaur rattling around.

Wonderful!!!

lol! Oh hang in there hun - it gets even worse. Half the time I start the conversations but I can't keep up with it either. ;) That's also how it's going around here, writing, formatting, painting, con scheduling... I heard my husband make coffee in the kitchen this morn only to realize he had just gotten out of bed and I hadn't even made it that far yet.

Okay gang, let's see what we can pull together. Will sort it out here but when we get ready to go - we'll start another thread. How's that sound. And if we have any lurkers lurking... don't be a stranger! Jump on in too! :)

Cheers,
Kath

I made it back! Houston Con was fantastic! But I'm absolutely exhausted. We just got back late last night. I've got to get a developmental to my editor on Wed. I'm hoping I can recoup today then tell you guys all about it tomorrow. :)

Never enough hours in the day.

Okay gang - if you haven't heard about Star Trek: Prelude to Axanar get thee hence to their website and/or FB page. lol!

Let me back the truck up a little. In 2013 when I went to RNConvention in Las Vegas (I was signing books and presenting workshops), it turned out to be the same time as the Las Vegas Star Trek convention. So of course there was no way I was leaving Vegas without popping in to that convention for at least one day. I got to meet a few actors and was perusing the vendor room when I literally stumbled into Richard Hatch (he was Apollo on the original Battlestar Galactica series). Being a long time fan I stopped and chatted. I mentioned I was having a book signing at another convention and we chatted about writing but he (very good-naturedly of course) kinda gave me a bad time about not only being an indie but being a romance author on top of it. (I also write scifi/fantasy). Of course I'm used to that so I'm prepared with the industry numbers. Anyway, like I said, he was very nice and then we started talking medieval history and the like - he's almost as big of a medieval nut as I am. lol! His response is something I deal with all the time so I'm used to it - no big deal.

Well I did start following his facebook page and the next thing I know - he's playing a Klingon on Prelude to Axanar. Get this it's an Indie production! In fact they've got a Kickstarter going right now. But the Prelude trailer is freakin' awesome! They kicked off their promotion at San Diego Comic Con. I was at RNConvention in Vegas again this year but unfortunately the Star Trek Convention was a few weeks later.

But then I found out the folks were going to be at Houston Con including Richard Hatch. I had also read an article about Richard's talk at Comic Con and it seems he has an new outlook on this indie thing. ;) Okay, now I have got to go talk to him. Besides, I love what they're doing with Axanar so I'm going to go network with other indies no matter what media they are in. I talk my hubby and son into going. Hubby hasn't been to a con since 1989, hasn't heard about Axanar and this is my son's first con. They're dragging their feet but I know they are going to love this. So I get both in a headlock and off we go.

As cons go Houston Con is relatively small so this is a perfect venue to talk to folks. We get there and I track down Richard Hatch. Of course he meets so many people, he doesn't remember me from Adam - but I remind him of the conversation and he starts remembering. "So how's being an indie author going?" he asked.

"I'm an Amazon Top 100 author in my genre," I reply.

His jaw hits the floor. Anyway, we kept chatting and he's asking me all these questions and my husband's there of course hubby is my best cheerleader. Anyway, Hatch ends up asking me for a writing sample and to bring it to a workshop he's doing on Sunday. Wonderful. (After that workshop he also tells me I need to get into theater - like I don't have enough irons in the fire already! lol!)

After that I end up talking to everyone involved with the production and networking with them. By the time the weekend was over, they were calling me by name and we were having a grand time. lol! J.G. Hertzler even hugged my feet because I brought them drinks while they were on stage for a Q & A and they asked for them a couple of times but no one got up and got them anything. I was like geez - I'll go get them. lol!

Anyway, we attended the screening of Prelude and my hubby and son were officially hooked (if meeting the people hadn't done it already). I also got to talk to Christian Gossett who is the director. He is also a miniature painter and was with Sideshow for a time.

All in all it was a great time and the Axanar project is something that is absolutely fantastic - check it out - you won't believe it's indie!

Now, I get to bust open some stuff that came while I was gone and decide what I get to paint. :)

But one thing I really want to do is kit-bash an Ares star ship. hehe!

Well, I've been busy, unfortunately not the mini painting busy.

But - got my premise for the sci/fi off to my editor. She's going to help me put it into books right proper.

Got a new idea rolling for my Highlander series. Medieval stuff always concentrates on the noble because according to the time period, nobles were the ones who had money and knew how to fight. But I'm working on a story in the midst of Longshanks's war against the Scots (throw Braveheart out the window - great movie for entertainment, but the historical accuracy sucked big time). Anyway, found a solid historical line to give the working man's POV. Welcome to the blue collar historical. lol!

And I managed to swing hosting a live Google Hangout with the exec producer of Star Trek: Axanar - Alec Peters. Just wait until you watch this one happen - you'll love it.

Now, I have looked at my mini painting stuff - my paints and everything are pure crap right now, so I gotta restock. Good news is, big payday hits at the end of this month. So it's gonna be at least 10 more days until we get there guys...but we'll get there.

I've decided to get my son involved too. We're going to sit down and build one of the original Battlestar Galactica Viper kits. I've had this kit for years and my kid has been bugging me to build it for a long time. Why the hell not? So I hope you guys don't mind if I use that for our painting rounds. Besides the kid is going to be off to college in the not so distant future... this is probably one of the last fun things I get to do with him. I keep waiting for the "mom ain't cool any more" attitude which I expected in junior high - but he's a senior now and thankfully that hasn't hit it yet. Still, no time like the present to do stuff with him.

So at the end of the month I get to go out and replenish my paints - I might even buy an airbrush.

Don't worry guys - I'm still here, it's just taking me a bit to get things rolling - but geez, I've got some major stuff in the works. ;)

First off, I think it is Fracking awesome you have your own books rolling out, and if you don't mind I will probably pick your brain in a PM about it soon. Enjoy it while you can, and don't worry how long it takes, were not going anywhere, though we will be lurking and pestering you to show us some work...but not because were some creepy stalker lot...well not most of us anyways, but we can't wait to see your work.

heyhey! Kathryn's back! It's good to read that you're doing areet, and publishing, also. A tip o the hat due to the lady, methinks. *hat tip*

As for me, in japan, I've actually been back in scotland for the past few weeks, introducing the young uns to the extended family. It's lovely to see em play with their cousins over there, but sad when we have to drag them back to japan (not least cos it signals my return to work. blegh.) Still, that's part and parcel of the whole living-overseas gig, I suppose. *shrug*

Anyway - I'll go back to lurking now, like wot I have been doing the past year or so. Just wanted to stop by and say howdy-do. Stay well - I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, of course :)

Awww.... thanks Dig! You're so sweet! And sure, pick my brain any time (watch out - it's dark and you never know what's going to jump out at ya. hehe!) But I love talking about writing almost as much as I do horses - so ye've been warned. hehe!

Will be cool to see the viper come together Kath.

Cool! I was hoping y'all wouldn't mind. I've got to run to the grocery store in a minute then I'll come back and reveal the plan that just got bigger and better of course. lol! I was going to start a new thread for anyone who wanted to join in with the Procrastinating Painters Club - but I'll probably wait until tomorrow.

hehehe!
