Retail Therapy: Post some new minis

I got the Artemis from Hasslefree, the 2005 Christmas Sophie from Reaper, and Virinia from Reaper as well. I actually managed to leave Games Day without buying anything. Of course that's partly because the Forge World was 2 hours long, and partly because the one mini I really wanted hasn't been released yet.

No way I didn't read that correctly! YOU didn't buy anything at GD? lol!

What mini do you want that you're waiting on?

hey Kathryn...

i don't often post WIPs of my work...
i do enjoy hearing what people think of the finished product, good or bad...
but feedback on a WIP feels a bit like too many cooks in the kitchen to me, especially since everyone has a different way of looking at minis...

my customers get WIPS, so they can stay in touch with a project, or make changes if they want, but i'm never happy with the photos...
for a better rundown of my thoughts on WIPs, i just happened to have written about it on my blog last month:
http://jahminis.blogspot.com/

as i continue to develop my own style, i find it better to paint alone, and in my own space...
i do take influences from everywhere, and study painted minis daily...
the thing i don't study is painting techniques of others, or color theory and that technical stuff...
it may just be hard-headed, but i'm enjoying the process of developing organically through constant painting and letting MY natural eye build the composition and choose tones...
i don't know if that makes sense, but it's a philosophy i've been working on for the last decade...

i don't think i have a personal, visible, style yet, or if i ever will...
some painters work i know before i even see their name...
one day, i hope my minis will be as distinctive as Yellow One, Mrika, or Brokenblade (and many others), but who knows what will come out at the end of this long experiment...

so, no WIPs for me...
mostly just because i hate cameras:)...

i do like watching other people's projects develop though...
it's like TV for me out here in the bush...

cheers
jah

Heya freak! I thought the archangel was new - or did you just get them? How's the hasselfree ones going?
yeah he may be but it was the top two gamezone ones that i have, plus a unit of the mournful knights, and a few others. the hasslefree is on the back bench atm. got a shed load of bases to make for a new company a mate owns. you get yours?

@jah, shit, that's heavy stuff there, my condolences

I hear ya. WIP threads aren't for everyone. For me, they are extremely motivating. I like getting that feedback and it helps me stay interested in the project. But before painting I was a writer for years, so I'm used to dealing with critique groups and learning how to keep it my project and not become everyone else's. ;)

Obviously, you're doing something right! lol! I'm just the opposite, I love learning techniques and studying color theory. Like you, it's on my own. I couldn't stand art class in college because it was too rigid and we studied stuff I had already learned in high school, so I was just plain bored.

lol! No worries, I was just hoping to see it as it progressed because I enjoy watching the WIP threads too. I'll keep an eye one the blog though. ;)

Cheers!

Yeah, I got mine and have been working on him. But his beak was tweaked a little and I fixed it with apoxie...but while I was painting the face it just came off. grrrrr! I'm going to try fixing it one more time and if this doesn't work, I'll rush an order from FRP minis since CMON is still out of stock.

After a bit of a splurge in the Spring, my only Summer minis have been some second hand Rackham...

RackhamUnstripped.jpg

...I though that one was missing an arm but after identifying them from the Rackham catalogue it turns out that he's complete :)

L-R: Dwarf Warrior Of Mid-Nor. ? from the Mid-Nor Clan Court Of The Abyss set. Undead of Acheron The Gorgon. Goblins Of No-Dan-Kar Klune Militiamen.

Though there have been some paints & basing bits purchased as well ;)

Cheers, B.

Very nice Will. I'm a Wolfen fan myself. Although I sold mine to Trystan - trying to resist the urge to buy more. lol!

Just succumbed to the powers that be and bought some red box games minis:

RBG Halfblood Gregor the Crooked.JPG
Looking forward to painting the troll in particular.

That troll is seriously cool Nod! I really like it!
