Im liking the base & the mini but the green on green is clashing and Im guessing theres not much you can do about that now.
I had the same problem with my jungle squad which crashed and burned at Salute, didnt even get a finalist cert :(
Still going to enter it into GD but im quickly learning that all these competitions are a bit of a wheel of fortune as Skel says.

as 10ball said. the idea of creatures hiding in the bushes is great but in a competition like this when its all about to be seen not the best idea. That said, there is always a big amount of un/luck involved in this sort of competitons, in all miniature competitions really as art is very subjective.

looking forward to see your stuff at sunday!

I was going to do it a sort of pale red\pink\purple idea but it looked wrong and I felt it would have looked stupid in the end, too cartoony.

TBH I don't expect to get anything at the comp. It will be the usual names who do very well, then the usual whoever painted the most recent GW model gets something.

I think picking 2 forgeworld things and a tyranid probably killed it before I even got there.

Had a bit of a shit week so far with flooding in my parents house while they are on holiday and just running about like a blue fly.

We will see you never know but the Lictor was a last minute addition and was just something to try, yes I could have made it more striking but in the end it was a 50\50 flip choice, contrasting or part of the scene, and in the end I felt the bright pinky\red looked too cartoony.

Oh well, next year I spose.

Its not over until the fat judge sings!

That's an awful thing to say about Alan Merritt!

TBH that was the first thing I read this morning and I wasn't in the best of moods as been a crap last 2 days and this morning!

I'm looking forward to the day and you never know, plan is to get at least 1 finalist, if I get more than that that would be ace, Trophies themselves are a totally different matter, don't think I am there yet tbh. :)

I really think you have a good chance with you tank scene, its looking spot on.

Everytime I think im getting anywhere near a win in any comp I fail big time. :(
Last year my nurgle squad just missed out, some over enthusiastic chap was bouncing round me saying that I should complain to the judges about mine being much better than another etc etc
I just replied 'why!?' their not going to suddlenly say 'Oh yes Mr 10 ball, your correct' and snatch the trophy off the other person! Im usually in a sulk for two weeks after then come out fighting again!!!
I vowed Id win a GD before im 40 so this is the penultimate try.:fingers-crossed:

Hope your week gets better mate.

That Nurgle squad was lovely though, did you get a finalist for it though? As at least its something.

I am currently in the process of making scale newspaper on decal paper but not 100% if I am going to use it or not, may ruin the whole scene, basically it just says WAR LOST to give the impression that this was a last stand.

I'm also in 2 minds if I am going to put a title plaque on the thing.....will have to see.

Time is almost upon us and I STILL have the Mumak rider to finish and get the diorama scene glued together and finalised, thankfully have Friday off.

honestly, with the time limit in mind, if i were you i would cut the numbers of entries and save the dio for next year, and try to spice the two other entries. to me that feels like a greater chance of getting a finalist medal. but your call oc.

haha 10ball, id love to see you go bananas with the judges :D

TBF thought, the Lictor is basically finished, I cant really add anything to him bar some saliva type effects and gloss on the muscle bits of the grab arms. As for the big tank its also basically done, the only bits I was adding to it is some semi gloss to the mud to add a sheen of dampness and maybe the newspaper idea, but other than that its effectively done.

So doing the diorama bit is all that's left to do, and that's just the rider guy, some more desert vegetation and paint a sun dried log.

Its worth taking along, as my first finalist proved, the thing I did in 3 nights got a pin, the thing I took 3 months on didn't even get first cut! You never know.

Oh and 10 Ball after Games day, surely Daffy duck when he goes ape!

On the lictor base maybe see if you can pick-up some green pigment powder. A little bit of that stuff might really make it come alive. Then I would go back in and do your selective gloss varnish :) Best of luck!

I wont be able to get pigment powder at this stage, living out in the sticks in NE Scotland, most stuff is mail order.

However I am hitting the local model shop tomorrow to get some other foliage bits from model railway shop to add some larger filler to the Lictor base (Lichen etc) and some desert foliage like tunmbleweeds to add to the desert diorama. Then its get everything ready and packed for travel on Saturday.

If I get one finalist I will be happy TBH.

Well it was a good weekend had by all it seems, and the reports are in that many saw this years 'new' warhammer Fest as a great success.

It was relaxed, nice venue to sit, get snacks and talk whilst the judging and stands were going on. The sales area didn't feel like the whole reason for the event and I had a good laugh with a few staff friends who I hadn't seen in a long time.

Coming to the golden demon, it was a great turn out with the usual very high standards you would expect and the display area was a great improvement on last year at the NIA. There was room to get around the cabinmets and see etuff without feeling like you were being squashed and the lighting was much improved, both by better cabinet lights and windows in the arena room brightening up the place too.

In the end, of my three entries I took with me the least likely took a finalist :) Its always the way.

My Tank and Lictor didn't place for whatever reasons, but the other finalists in those cabinets were excellent and thoroughly deserved so i'm not moaning about the decisions at all.

In the end I took a finalist in Diorama (the judge actually put the green sticker on the entry as I was walking past haha).

Looking at the entries that won in the end I cannot say I feel hard done by, the space wolf flyer entry that took gold was really good and actually gave me an idea for next year (in a roundabout way).

Great to see Lee (10 Ball) Stefan (Skellet) , Sprocket Avelorn and everyone in the forum that I was meeting IRL for the first time, a great bunch of folks and look forward to seeing you again at the next event. Salute and Euro seem to be where I should be going I have been told :)

I will sort out the pics I took on the day soon, but the internet connection and photobucket seem to want to disagree at the moment.
