Scoring is complete fluff. It never had a kilter to get out of. 
Sure, it's fun, but if you wanted better accuracy, you'd want a comprehensive scale with breakouts for things like photography, construction, & painting. You'd probably also want more segregation in categories so a diorama or complex vehicle don't end up in the same bucket as an individual model.
Of course, asking people to put more than a few seconds of effort into scoring beyond "10 is amazing, 8 is a great job, 5 is tabletop quality" might really cut down on the number of voters.
