Scoring out of kilter, or...

the W.A.S interfering?
Ok so I put this mini in my gallery so I could link it into another thread (question for older members)

http://www.coolminiornot.com/269958

now I know it's rubbish so I scored it a 1.0 - and now it's at 4.5
I mean, wtf !
It's badly painted, definitely not cool so...

It's now stripped for repainting and if I do a reasonable job it will go off the chart by this scoring
Sometimes, well ok most of the time, I just don't understand CMON.

LOL, we don't often see complaints that something is scoring too high...
...not from the person who posted it at least) :rotfl:

I suspect that some people aren't reading the comment below, and assume it's a 25 mm mini. As such, it would rate at least a 4 for the work done on the eyes and the scarf.

It's neat and tidy and the eyes have a bit of character. No masterpiece by any stretch but I don't think 4.5 is in anyway overrated.

Cheer up Wag, I've just given it a 3 :rotfl: Can't vote 1 or 2 on it though. The photography isn't bad enough, the colours are neat & it's actually a miniature! Lowest votes are reserved for blurry shots of half of something that may be the back of a mini and if I squint there's possibly more than one colour on it :)

Know when he's from yet? I'm not familiar with them but contacting either of these sites might be worth a bash, found whilst web searching for Les Higgins...

Let me see....

- Painting is neat and colours are where they're suposed to be.
- Colour choice is good.
- Paint coverage is good.
- Clever use of kitchen paper as a backdrop.

No it's not a 1! I'd give it a 5, maybe a 4 if I was being a harsh judge. You have to take into acount that it's quite easy to achieve a score of around 5, a bit more difficult to achieve a 6, getting to 7 needs some real effort, 8 is hard and everything above 8 requires many hours of work and a very good understanding of miniature painting. So in short difficulty increases exponentialy after some point. It's a bit like school. A pass grade is quite easy and then difficulty increases as you move up the grades all the way to a distinction.
Looking at your galery I see you have good skills. You should try improving your blends and shading and more importantly keep painting!Practice makes perfect after all. I'd love to see the new version of this mini. :)

Considering this figure has no shading or highlights and is just painted VERY basically I 'm even more confused how it can score so well when most of my other stuff is far superior yet barely scrapes a 0.1 more in scoring - and they are minis which have more of the 'cool' factor. Good job I don't paint for scores but only for fun or I'd have gone doolally by now.

personally id give it a 2-3
i never see 1's due to people up-voting themselves but now because of things liek airbrushes and paint-gods TT quality is now about 3-4

Yeah, I think there is alot of voting on the curve.

That never worked out for me in school, when they graded on a curve.

The basic tabletop rule I've always gone by (rating of 5) is at least 3 colors and neatly painted. I'd say yours is scoring just right. It's bad, don't get me wrong ( :p ) but you're being way to harsh. If everyone agreed with you then this would outrank your guy.

you 'brits and your vernacular amuse me sometimes.

After reading this thread, and your outrage, i voted it a 10. I want to see it in Top Last 7 Days.

*LMAO* That would be awesome- we could start a grass-roots movement and everything to garner support and votes.

OMG ! Not another W.A.S ...................

Seriously though, if you compare it to my Lunah mini the difference is so wide this mini scoring as it does makes no sense at all. I look at TT, score 5.0, as fully painted with at least one shade and highlight and a more than painted base. Go figure.

And everybody ignore CT's comments.

For your Lunah model I really think it's the background that's killing the score. After taking a closer look I really think she should be 5.5 - 6.

The scoring system is really biased and, I imagine, a lot of people just click a score without really looking at the mini if the pic is less than stellar. Also, a lot of your pieces have a very cartoony quality paint scheme that is very, very well done, but I think a lot of voters are grading off of photo realism, meaning that stylized pieces loose points.
