Ok, here\'s the other miniature; the Emperor Karl Franz. Again, still only roughing up some anatomy..

He\'s going to hold a double handed war hammer.

Good work on here.

I also started a Dwarf before I went back to Uni so never expect it to be finished, but here is what I have made of him.

Dwarfish.jpg

The mail is rough as it was pretty much all dry sculpted, his face and beard are all that is finished thus far.

That\'s excellent Leo!

I\'ve ordered some gear to do some pewter hand casting. I\'ll see what I can do with your Emperor - the resin copies are cack - too many air bubbles.

Cheers that sounds tasty.

Anyone have any suggestions for where to proceed with this dwarf when i get round to it. I was reckoning on armoured feet rather than his current boots but I am not sure where to go with his arms or weapons etc.?

Ok a small update on the Karl Franz sculpt. The face was a pain to get right, and didn\'t turn out too well on the picture (for some reason the nose looks bigger in the pic than IRL).

The patterns on the armour are made completely without 3ds max and weird chemicals :p I\'m afraid I can\'t quite match scibor with this technique lol (could someone please translate cyril\'s article on manually created press moulds?!).

Next I\'m gonna finish the breast plate details and sculpt arm armour...

Quadrille.....looking fancy those pants.
Cyrils article.
From what I can make out he is basically making push moulds by hand.
Milliput block with the reverse pattern \"scribed\" or \"carved\" in by hand using a point. This is then used as the \"mould\".

I think.

Im going to try it myself sometime.
It sounds like Scibor is fully mechanical with his approach from software design to cnc mould/stamp production.

I think.

Theres been quite a bit fuss about Scibor doing this and personally I see it as another tool to use and nothing wrong with it. Making moulds to redproduce GW heads though I dont agree with but thats a story for another time in another place.

Cyril\'s article.
What has been mentionned before is just a draft. The final version should be much more complete and even explain how to do brass etchings at home. Guess who\'s going to translate it and make an article for CMON with Cyril\'s permission ;)?

He must have some serious money or is using a machine at work if he\'s doing that. I looked up 3D printers a while ago, they cost between $24000 and $180000. Or else he\'s having somebody else run the machine, and that costs about $1000 per piece.

Thats excellent news Cedric about the article.
I was only guessing from the pics. Cant wait for the real deal.

Scibors stamps could be made very easily using a basic 2d cnc machine. I know plenty people who would do that as a favour and the pattern design should be easy enough.

By any chance do you know what file format they would need? I\'m not planning on asking you to see if they can do it for me; it\'s just in case I find something like that in my town ;).

Well its been a while but I think anything from autocad etc would be a good format.
I would just ask the people who do the machining.

thanx quadrille:

yes that is FIMO, i use it to sculpt mechs cos i can get really sharp edges, and smooth surfaces, i sometimes have problems with GS in that respect. i usually sculpt blocks in one stage, for example the torso was sculpted without baking, then the head, arms etc.

getting a smooth surface can sometimes be tricky, specially in large areas, i use a little water to help me there, even though fimo doest need it, ive noticed it helps with the process, not much though but a little bit is really handy, if im still not convinced i just bake it and smooth it the hard way :), file and very fine sand paper in hand, some times even a cutter.

with GS the smoothes has no secret just practice im afraid, im still having problems with it sometimes, just make sure my good ol friend sand paper is handy. but a very usefull tip is NOT to use lots of water, use the less water posible so that putty doesnt stick to the tool, my friend ergman told me that one and surely helps a lot

Thanks for the info!

I looked around a little on the net for FIMO and I seem to find the stuff in lots of different colors. But what you use and Allan a.s.o. use is always beige colored. Is it some special type of FIMO (much like the monochromatic SuperSculpey is to Sculpey) with better properties for fine work?

no is just plain fimo, well in my case is FIMO SOFT (i thnik allan uses standard FIMO), not for a specific reason, is just i couldnt find another around here. i chose this color cos its very \"soft\", natural color to look at, if you understand what i mean, also is not a strong color so you see the details better. i recomend this one (called desert sand i think) or a pale grey (dont know the exact name).

anyway if you want some tips about sculpting with fimo just PM or ask here and i would gladly answer, it can be quite tricky at first is a completly different way of sculpting compared with gs
