Seattle Area Painters

@ Gin - I\'m always up for new places. Dunno about the drive though unless we can crash on your floor. ^_^ I do have a gaming geek friend on the other side of the mountains...think he\'s in Spokane? He\'s the bro of one of my good friends. Dunno if he paints though.

As for a place, if there\'s not too many of us, I can always offer up my house. It\'s a lot cleaner than it has been in the past. ^_^ My work area is a disaster, but there\'s a nice table with a cushioned bench in the kitchen. It\'ll be pretty well lit during the summer at least.

Of course, it would probably be better to find someplace else where we can order coffee or pints or something, but just thought I\'d throw it out there as a last-ditch option. Oh...and we have two cats...in case anyone is allergic or doesn\'t want fine black cat fur floating in the paint. >_<

I say if we\'re going to sit and BS, that we do our next one at a pub. As long as we put the minis away after the first few pints, we should be good. :D

A road trip might be fun, but that will definitely have to wait until I get a job. ;)

On the meetings note, maybe it would be a good idea to try to meet again before setting up a painting session. Perhaps sit and discuss what it is we want to do with SAP (ooh, we even have an acronymn name...). It\'s even possible we might be able to have two types of meetings--one BS and one actual painting.

If we put them like two weeks apart, then we\'d have one painting meeting per month, and one BS/catch-up/discussion meeting per month. Does that sound reasonable?

What days and times would work best for most people?

EDIT:
I\'d offer my place, too, but my painting station is really only big enough for one, and there\'s not painting-worthy lighting anywhere else in the house. We do have an awesome deck that overlooks Lake Union, though... ;)

New Yahoo Group

Sorry for the double post...

Since there seems to be some interest, I went ahead and made a Yahoo group for SAP--Seattle Area Painters. This will be helpful, since we can not only use it as a mailing list, but we can also keep a group calendar and link archive.

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/seattleareapainters/

I do have it set to moderate the first post, so I can try to keep the spam-bots away. ;)

Yes he does indeed have a fantastic view, and the most comfortable Sofa I have ever had the pleasure of sleeping on. I am planning on moving to Seattle this AUG. I am coming up for the DragonFlight Convention, and I am hosting the GoldenHammer Paint compitition.. so get your miniatures ready.. ( http://thepryde.com/GH.htm )

Valendar and I have started a Yahoo Group for the Seattle Area Painters to use.. ( http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/seattleareapainters/ )

I have seen most of Valendars miniatures and they look so much better in person than they do in photos.. I need to find a good cheep camera I can use to take pictures of my miniatures.

Because I care..

Did you hear GW is raising the price once more.. wth the release of 4th edition.

Man I cant stand GW.. I hate them.

What is NMM, NudeMidgetMashing? I dunno.

What paints should I buy? I hear Reapers are pretty good.. but I want to make sure I get good paints.

What is Tweening.. I mean come on.. what part of the process does the Tweening come from? lol

( You should be sloshed about now D. )

Our own yahoo group? And an acronym? Wow...look at us go! Although I don\'t know if S-A-P is something I would REALLY want to use as an acronym for our group. :D

Sounds good Valander. That way, if someone is busy they can miss one or another or whatever and still have a chance to hang out with folks. Weekend afternoons probably work best for me, personally, though I might be able to do weekday nights (except for the first Monday of the month...that\'s when my theatre company meets usually). Maybe if we do something semi-regularly, I\'ll see if I can shanghai Mr. Soles into coming down sometime.

As for my spacious abode, I don\'t have a lake out back, but I do have a little creek. ^_^ And the table in the kitchen is big enough for 5 or 6 people to sit around ok. Light isn\'t fantastic, but it\'ll have streaming sunlight in the summer. And TVs and DVD players in about every room of the house too, but that\'s something else entirely.

Yay! Jenova (Inge) joined, too, since she happened by this thread.

I want to give the voting for date/time a week or so, (or until every member\'s voted), then I\'ll set up some calendar things.

Hrm...wonder why she moved to Seattle. Lots of folks I know have been moving OUT of here. :p

@ Praetorian - Ya know, you could road trip down here sometime. ^_^ Though I hear the border can be a pain sometimes. As for magic, well we had the amazing multiple personality weather yesterday. It poured down rain and looked dark as night, then the skies turned blue, then it got dark again and poured down more rain. Think that happened in like an hour or something.

Yay SAP! Um..er...anyway, thanks Anthony. This is all pretty exciting.

Yes, Seattle is the Emerald City, as magical as the one in Oz, I suppose.

Hell, I did meet the love of my life here, so that\'s good enough for me.

Anyways, anyone in the area that is interested should make sure to join the SAP Yahoo group, and vote on preferences for days and times. I\'ll be closing the voting Monday, so that we can try to set up a meeting.

Thanks for the work on this Anthony! Funny to think this kinda started because I was going to F&F and wanted to see if people wanted to hang out. Now we\'re kinda official or something. I had the idea that maybe we could get a psychiatrist on board, call ourselves a support group, and go for a non-profit status. ^_^ Just kidding.

Not about thanking you for your work on this Anthony. Just about the non-profit thing.

On a side note, Anthony - do you know a guy named Jordan? I think he used to hang out and Games and Gizzards too.

edit: @ Drake - Everything we want huh? Well we got rain...check...more rain...check...some wind...check...and ummm...a noticeable lack of days that are suitable for rattlecan painting. :D Just kidding. I actually had entertained thoughts about moving out of Seattle when I was unemployed, but I\'m too lazy and I like parts of the city too much.

Wah - I wanna live in Seattle where you guys all get together!

Then move on up here! I\'m willing to bet we have more stores here with nifty clothes for ya. :D

It was way cool meeting ya Anthony. Should be good times when we start getting a group together and taking a look at WIPs and such. Too bad you couldn\'t make it Jeremy, but I\'m totally down for motivating a meeting sometime in the future again. Like I said before (I think, my memory is fading), I have far too few people I know who I can sit down and geek about painting with. Gaming...well I have people who I can geek about gaming coming out of my ears.

We can all get together and laugh at each other\'s wereshark models next! lol

Actually, your group sounds like a great idea! The closest I\'m going to get to there, though, is Lincoln, Nebraska in May. Know anyone in Lincoln?

You guys have fun and if we (Grumb and I) ever make it out that way we\'ll definitely stop in and say \"HI!\" :flip:

Edit: And I\'ll definitely have to go shopping at some of those neat stores you have! :D

@ Red - Yup. Sounds interesting, and lord knows I could use the feedback on my painting and such. Unfortunately, haven\'t really had a chance to post anything up here because my camera is pretty useless for taking pics of minis and I don\'t have a tripod or anything.

And yes! Very neat stores! Neat stuff...some scary stuff too, but it keeps things interesting!

@Equus: Yes, I think I do know Jordan. If it\'s the same Jordan I\'m thinking of, there were several nights spent after-hours in the G&G basement playing stupid LAN games (helps when you know people that work there, like Ryan and Eric).

I wonder if we got a non-profit status if we\'d be able to get wholesale prices on minis and paints? Hmmmmmm.......

LOL :bouncy:

@ Anthony - The Jordan I know is a big, boisterous guy who likes history and to hit people with big foam sticks. ^_^ He also has some of the worse dice-rolling luck that I\'ve ever seen. The apocryphal story is that at G&G he touched another player\'s dice during a tournament. When the guy found out, he was so upset that he went out to the sidewalk and chucked the dice into the middle of traffic on Broadway. Jordan also managed to get his entire Undead Warhammer FB army wiped out to a model, with the necromancer dying last. How he did that, I have no idea. :p

Oh yeah...his last name is LeGros. At least, I think that\'s how you spell it. He used to work for me at WotC too.

Sounds like the same guy, but ya never know. Of course, I wouldn\'t be surprised if it is the same dude, since Seattle is such an incestuous small town. ;)
