seller jacking up the shipping fees?

Hmm, never really thought about it before.... seems some sellers charge rather alot for the \"handling\" part in \"shipping and handling\"...I don\'t bid unless I really want the item, but at least I know what I\'m going in to, though.

Thanks for the warning, pitynoman, I dunno if I\'ve been rooked like that, but I\'ll certainly be looking in the future!

I just bought a mini from a UK seller - after I paid he told me that shipping was less than he expected (likely because Canada Post\'s small package fees went down) and that it cost £1 less than expected to ship. So he said he\'d discount me the £1 the next time I bought something from him. Also promoting repeat business I guess, but he\'s on my \"favorite sellers\" list anyway so that works for me.

If he\'d said nothing I\'d never have known different. It\'s nice to see straight-up honesty on eBay.

Also... Who the hell sells only the BOX for a DVD set? And who buys it?

I had a guy last week won several of my auctions bbut because I was up at gamesday I couldn\'t invoice him till I got home and found out he had already paid so I refunded him the extra postage, he never got in touch despite the fact I e-mailed him and told him what I had done so I hope he appreciated it :D

Figuring shipping costs overseas can be a pain.

EB & SaxonAngel - same thing for me, sold off a bunch of anime, with the auction stating $20. After shipping out a BIG box full of anime, it came to $60. I ate it...

I still don\'t understand some sellers, though. I always combine shipping, MAYBE adding a $1 for extra items. I just don\'t see the need to gouge for shipping costs because you didn\'t make as much on the auction.

I always check the shipping cost and add it into what I\'m willing to bid.
Most I paid for shipping was $250.00, but I was having a couch shipped across the country. Even with the shipping I still got a good price on the couch - (even considering I was the victim of schill bidding - the seller & bidder have been kicked off ebay).

Now to refute your assumptions.
There could be something wrong with ebay or paypal.
I charge $1.50 to ship a mini in the blister within the US. That covers the padded envelope, postage, and a few cents for my effort.
One bidder got the invoice and somehow it had added $2 extra. I have no idea how that happened. I checked the invoice I had sent and it wasn\'t that high. He sent paypal and I refused the payment because it wasn\'t a verified account (I\'m not paying credit-card fees on a .50 item) and he was happy enough to send a check for considerably less than he sent by paypal.

p.s. I at the loss on a monopoly set I sold once that I misweighed. I thought I was charging exact shipping, but it turned out to be only half what it cost so the transaction ended up costing me money. Oh well, my mistake.
I don\'t like people making their profits on shipping charges.

I know what it costs to ship.
I\'ve been selling for a while.
The extra $2 isn\'t unreasonable,I am sure it was an oversigt.I could make him eat his mistake, but I won\'t.:D

I\'m just saying ebay or paypal screwed up something I was selling and told my buyer $2 extra. I did not artificially boost the price.

That wasn\'t a personal comment.
I was just saying after cooling down, $8 priority mail for multiple large figs is not unreasonable imho.

Heh, that has never happened to me that I had to pay so much more. Maybe one or two Euros, but when someone from an outside country asks me for shipping I go over to the German Post site and take a look at the shipping costs. If I\'m still not sure I tell them I\'ll charge more and if it costs less I put the rest in the package.

Being ripped off however, yeah I\'ve had that happen to me dozens of times. You pay double PP of what it costs to ship things and when you tell them, they go: \"Well did you know the post office doesn\'t send somebody to collect the box at my home? I have to go to and deliver it myself! And do you have any idea what tape costs?\" The best thing that recently happened to me was some guy who stuffed my minis into an old USED and quite battered envelope and charged me 2 Euros for it! He tried to justify it by saying that once he had to pay for it, too. Oh, please, eat my shorts!
I have no mercy for such idiots, they instantly get negative feedback if they try to pull their shit with me.

I bet in the ring too! :D

But back to the topic, I think this is a common ploy to try to wring more money from the deal and should never be tolerated. Even IF it\'s a mistake the auction is a legal contract in both directions (although sellers often don\'t see it that way!) so they have to abide by it.

I have no problems with people sticking their charges into their postage fee as long as the postage cost is CLEARLY STATED.

Then if they take the piss too much, you just don\'t bid. If they try to charge more than advertised, they need their goolies crunching!
