Realistically, neither does a bunch of waffle about blending or watering your paints down!
It\'s all down to practice.
And anyway, who\'s to say that a given painter WANTS to improve from the level they\'re at or have submitted? They may be perfectly happy with the standard they\'re producing. It\'s all a bit presumptious.

If you can\'t see what I may find a bit troubling in this thread, then you must be blind. Face it Reverend, you, Spacemunkie and I aren\'t afraid to speak what\'s on our mind (even if it may be harsh...). But when I go back and read over what I\'ve written, sometimes I realize how awful it sounds, despite my best attempts to tell the person what is really needed. Technically, this defeats my point
And let\'s not turn this into an attack on my gallery. I\'m busy enough with school work, work, writing, music, the hobby etc. (on a related note, DrEvilMonki sent me some excellent instructions on how to take decent photos :beer: )
As for the articles, go check out my first one, and then my most recent. Whether you choose to do this or not, you will notice that:
1. I know a lot more about what makes a miniature a good miniature than I did at the start (ie. at first it was what \'popped\' or what \'looks absolutely AMAZING\" but now it\'s far more in depth; as in accurate directional lighting/shadows in the painting, colour contrasts etc.).
2. My writing has improved.
I\'d also like you to know why I\'m a little bit sensitive when comments ridiculing the column come up.. On average I spend over an hour going through that week\'s submissions, and an hour to four hours writing the article.

We\'re not ridiculing, and it certainly isn\'t a personal attack Ainu. I\'m just being a sarcastic, arguementative arse most of the time! (It\'s my raison d\'etre)

Then I wouldn\'t like to meet you in person.
I don\'t know though, I prefer writing as well as one can, but I\'ve always liked writing stories for the fun of it so that\'s probably the reason.

As mentioned elsewhere, the posting of comments doesnt happen very often anymore due to high volume of pics and unless you comment on other peoples\' work, comments are a rare thing.
I hate to point this out but I moderate about 60-80 (on average ) comments a day. Vikey and Finn18 probably do about the same.
What I think you actually mean is that you percieve that the amount of constructive comments isn\'t as high as you or I would like to see.
However what I do see is a great deal of laudits on the latest and greatest piece of work from some of the high standard painters. (Guilty of that myself, as I suspect are so many of us.)
What has become apparent to me is that there are a number of recently appeared \"protective\" commentators who have posted comments, rather highly scored, on figures praising the figure above the standard it is, \"In My Subjective View\" often accuratley, marked at.
There where and still are a number of reasons why I started the HEY YOU LOT thread in the Discuss Submissions forum.
1: There are a lot of deserved high scoring miniatures form well known names and there is equally some good stuff being posted which is being overshadowed by the top end painters.
2: Personally I now only vote when I can also comment on a picture where I think I canmake a suggestion which, without patronising the painter, may help. So by bringing the posted picture to your collective attention I\'m hoping that the painter will receive the recognition of their work and also that there may be some other constructive crticism provided.
