I like the wet snow, but you may want to consider working some brown slush in the low spots. If it is melting and they have been fighting in the area I would expext mud to be stirred up as well as the snow.

I'll try to get back to you with some more useful/insightful comments in future. Good thing you have good folks like KruleBear to pick up my slack. :p

The leather 'skirt' on baldy struck me as particularly impressive. This is very, very good, John.

Some nitpick: The fur over blondy's shoulders seems a little flat compared to the rest of him. Also... no blood on the snow on baldy? Guess you didn't get there yet. ;)

Lol great eyes oist that part ain't done yet.I'm gonna tell everyone a secret about my chaotic ways most of the ti e I'll get a figure 90 percent done and move onto the next ..well the dude with the blond hair was 80 percent done before he and baldy were based so the fur has just a basecoat really.guess I'll do that today..lol don't tell anyone bout my chaotic ways..it's one of my strengths I tell you...lol

I really like the vikings. It's going to be a great set of figures. Heck, it already is and there's only 2! Well, since no one else has asked, I will... how'd you do the snow? I'm planning a snow base for my current piece so I'm curious to hear how others approach it. I've got some woodland scenics snow and some of the crushed glass and water effects from Secret Weapon. There's a nice tutorial on Massive Voodoo and another from Sproket, but I'm also open to other ideas. By the way, have you thought about adding any snow to the actual figures? A little bit sticking to their clothing? I've seen others do that and the effect looks great. I may try it on mine too... though I'm not quite sure. I'd need to figure out realistically where it would stick and then how much to use for the effect without going overboard and looking silly. Anyway, I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

So what's this special piece you've got planned for historical single? If it's anything like the vikings I'm sure it will do well. You know my entry will be the Northumbrian figure, so bring it on!

Seeing these Vikings really makes me want to try painting 54mm figs, never really got past 28mm so I think 54mm will be the next step for me. Rather daunting knowing all mistakes will be that much more obvious!

I wish I could be at CB, it would be like watching Zeus (bailey) vs Poseidon (Bam) battle it out for the historical trophy.

I just wish I could make it to a con one day. We have nothing even remotely approaching the sort of events you guys have in the US and Europe. And I think I could die happy wandering through some of your hobby shops.

Stop teasing BAM - what's the model going to be? (Unless I've missed some obvious reference).

Yep the shows can be wonderful eye candy, Euro-militaire especially (Haven't done any on the European mainland. Yet)
The two biggest shows UK-wise Salute and Euro have differing target audiences, Salute is wargaming orientated and Euro aims more to the Painter/Collector. Having said that there's always a huge selection of shiny things to consider buying.

Shelagh, there's a shop near to me where you'd have a serious "Squee" moment...Element Games.
They have a small footprint, but a huge range, I have to edge sideways down two of the aisles, but man (girl) is it worth it.

Hahaha, I totally knew about your chaotic ways BAM, still, you never know when someone is not finished or simply overlooked something - I'd rather give unneeded feedback. Even the masters need feedback!

Arch, I really like that effect, I'd love to see someone put that into paint. As for cons - I am so near, yet so far! I'm hoping to head to Salute and/or Euro next year though. Told my wife I wanted to go to Adepticon for my 40th birthday, and she was like 'what for?' :/

@Dragonsreach - Watch out, you may get an uninvited visitor if I ever win the lottery.
